The plaque at the Hall of Fame gives that title to Roy Acuff. Study what he did and what he had to endure to sell and you'll understand why. Even Hank Sr. appreciated what Roy did!

Roy Acuff The King Of Country Music
Bob Wills King Of Western Swing
George Strait King of Modern Country Music

Depends on the definition of "king". Since Garth Brooks is a self-proclaimed rocker who made a monetary decision to go country, I'll go with Mr. Strait. George being from Texas doesn't hurt, either.

Glad to see the H3 love. I saw him for the fourth time about 3 weeks ago in Austin. On the rail, centered up. ALWAYS great.

To answer the OP, without a doubt, its Straight, But I don't listen to mainstream country

Bob Wills was more western swing than country. He was my dad's barber as a kid btw. Hank Williams is the king in my opinion and Jimmie Rodgers is the father of country.

                          Billy Ray Cyrus and/or Travis Tritt. It's a toss-up.

Unfortunately, I had that response typed long before you two jackholes replied with his name -- work just got in the way.

Someone better/should have already posted up the Highwayman song. At least two kings, Spartan style, in that one song along.
