My dads old band from the 70's. They played outlaw country music. Hell at 59 years old my dad still work a 9 to 5 and plays until 2am every weekend. Never made it famous but he's the king of country to me.
He's the one in the middle w/ a plaid shirt and sunglasses.

This guy runs up to them and says, "Hey, the world's coming to an end!" and the first one says, "Well, I best go to the mission and pray," and the second one says, "Well, hell, I'm gonna go and buy me a case of Mezcal and six whores," and the third one says "Well, I'm gonna finish the game." I shall finish the game, Doc.

Bob Wills is "still the king", but holy shit, Ernest Tubb, Merle, Waylon, Willie, et-fucking-cetera come MILES ahead of either of those two.
FWIW George Strait > Garth Brooks
I call bullshit! There is a fine line between red neck and country and these guys are straight "reeedneeeck!" George Strait FTW in my book. Who cares about who wrights what song, its the delivery that counts.
And Garth just tried to do to country music what Kid Rock tries to do to rap, "Rockify it."

If you asked Garth Brooks, he'd tell you that George Straight is better than he is. I like both, but a lot of people are comparing old school country with the more modern George and Garth. That would be like calling Black Sabbath a better metal band than Pantera. Both are way the fuck up there on the all-time greats list, but they come from different times. Shit evolves. I don't think that either of the 2 choices is the King of country music. Both are excellent singers and legends of their time. Both were the most popular country singers in their time....but the King?
George would be higher on the my list than Garth but I would have heavily consider those who have come before......Waylon, Willie, Johnny Cash, the Possum, Hank Sr & Jr......and can I get a honorable mention for Vern Gosdin?Last edited by slow84lx; 06-19-2011, 11:53 PM.
