I still think Ford's biggest mistake was releasing the 2010 Mustang without the upgraded powertrains.

I like both cars from a styling perspective but I do prefer the Mustangs more conservative approach. The Camaro is a big cartoonish for my tastes.

As for the Mustang's plant, there has been talk that the platform for the 2014 model will have IRS and be shared with a sedan (possibly a RWD Lincoln). That would help take up the extra capacity. Additionally, Ford can pretty much put any other car in there. It doesn't have to share the Mustang's platform...

The Mustang is in no danger. Ford appears to have big plans for the 2014.

I'd LOVE to have a brand new 5.0 Mustang in the garage...however, the $35k+ price tag is leaving it at the ford dealer. $25k and I'm game. For $35k, I'll find a used GT500 or e46 M3....or VETTE!

I have seen some GT's with the base model pkg. under 30k. No leather and 6 speed sticks. Not many but they are out there.

Yea, MSRP for the 2011 is just under 30K (not sure about the 2012). However, earlier this year there were $6K in discounts.

Folks that balk at a $35000 Mustang are totally ignoring the fact that this would blow the doors off a Cobra SVT from just 7 years ago. Those cost the same or more than a 2011 GT with the Brembo pack. They are just stuck on the fact that it is a Mustang.

BTW, you an always buy the V6 for a helluva lot less and have similar performance to the 2009 and earlier GT.

On the other hand there have been numerous production stops and people that ordered are having to wait along time for the cars.
Hopefully there are a few base 3.73 cars left in September.

I do not own either one, but if I had my preference between the two it would be a mustang. The new mustangs have a retro look that looks more like the 60 stangs. The new camaro really doesn't have that. I think most people want the new camaro so they can own a "Piece" of a movie. Transformers made that car and I think that is why people flock to that car. I think the mustang cop car in the first movie way way hotter looking.

Are you high? The camaro looks 10 times more retro than the new mustangs. BTW there was a mustang in transformers too, barricade. **EDIT** Just noticed you mentioned Barricade, how did the movie make the camaro not the mustang?

I don't think the movie made the car, but the star did drive the Camaro. Mustang was an afterthought.

The camaros look good, but the mustang is a far better buy. If they would just fix the rear end styling, I can't stand the mustang rear bumper/valance.

They should also ditch the gaudy turd with the shelby badge, and bring back the SVT Cobra for 2013.

The Movie was the Camaro's big public debut, other then the exclusive car show like Sema, that is why I said the movie really "made" the car.

doing some searching today and found several challenger SRT8's just a couple years old and south of $30k... Many vettes available, even a couple of GTS vipers. Granted those are used cars, but sometimes less than 25k miles on them and the same price as the Base GT.

I don't know what it is but I just can't bring myself to pay $30k for a MUSTANG. Granted, the one I WANT is north of $40k because of the extras, but for that kind of money, I'm looking at used e46 and some e92 M3's and 1 to 2 yr old Vettes which offer more room, better handling and better for all around use. Hell, even a used GTO 6.0 can be had for $15-18k....been looking at those for a while.

I guess I need to go drive a 2011/12 to see what the fuss is about.
