Send your boss a meeting request for this afternoon/evening, label as important/mandatory and resign over the phone. Chances are you're still going to have to email him an official resignation letter, but do so after you've spoken with him personally.

The real problem is that I see way too many out there running implementation without knowing exactly what they are doing. I see companies stuffing 8 vmware esx hosts into a single blade chassis with no consideration for high availability. I also see them stuffing 100 or more VMs on a single server without doing any real capacity planning to see if it will work properly to begin with.
Then there are tons of companies that just don't know how mission critical their apps are or they mix mission critical apps on ESX hosts that also run virtual desktops (a big no no).... I can go on and on, but you get the point.
Virtualization works great, but only when it's done right.
