You should tell them that you're leaving, but that you have already found a replacement. I would love to work from home.

I'm not an HR expert, but I believe by law that's your personal money (vacation time), so they have to pay you whatever amount you've accrued through their vacation policy.

Send your boss a meeting request for this afternoon/evening, label as important/mandatory and resign over the phone. Chances are you're still going to have to email him an official resignation letter, but do so after you've spoken with him personally.

*EDIT* Just saw the above post. Congrats on the new gig!

I fucken hate VMware. We have many clients that use it, and most are fucken idiots! Well, then again, most of all our clients are...

Congrat's on the new gig. One of my coworkers turned in his notice today too.

VMware is a pretty cool tool. We've used it pretty extensively for quite a few of my classes.

Yeah, it is great for non production use, but try to run a business on it just to save money, bad idea!

I see just the opposite, especially in larger data centers. Although, I guess to each their own.

That would be great if it were true. It's not.

In unqualified hands, it can certainly be a disaster. However if designed and implemented properly it can no only save a company a ton of money but it can make their IT dept a lot more dynamic.

The real problem is that I see way too many out there running implementation without knowing exactly what they are doing. I see companies stuffing 8 vmware esx hosts into a single blade chassis with no consideration for high availability. I also see them stuffing 100 or more VMs on a single server without doing any real capacity planning to see if it will work properly to begin with.

Then there are tons of companies that just don't know how mission critical their apps are or they mix mission critical apps on ESX hosts that also run virtual desktops (a big no no).... I can go on and on, but you get the point.

Virtualization works great, but only when it's done right.
