My family and I are moving to Colorado at the end of the month. I looked at Uhaul online and it will cost about $600 to use their truck. This is not counting gas for the family car and the truck. Is there a cheaper way to go about this? Any advice about doing a big move like this? I have lived in Dallas my whole life and never done anything of this magnitude before. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Just bite the bullet and do it. I dont see any cheaper way. I used uhaul when I moved out of Colorado. It was only about $100 to rent a small trailer, but that was just for my stuff.

Generally speaking, DIY moves are always cheaper. When I moved to Minneapolis from here, I used Uhaul and it cost right at $1000 for the truck and the fuel. I went the POD route coming here from Nawlins... Its nice they drop it off and you can load it at your own pace. Then on the other end the same thing. Be careful though they are smaller then they look. I ordered one on a Friday planning to spend the weekend loading it. When it showed up I saw how small it was and had to have another one delivered that Monday to get the rest of my shit. Hell I just barely fit it in two of them... It was nice not to have to drive or mess with a strange vehicle full of my stuff and the worry that goes with it.Comment

Off the top of my head it was like 1500 each... I would call them and the other companies that do it and compare. We didn't have a choice down there as POD's was the only game in town. I bet here you could do a lot better...Hell re-reading your post you would not even need their largest one it seems.. id call a freight carrier that does the u ship thing. you dont have to drive the crap around fuel the truck etc. all you have to do is load it and unload itComment
