There is an apparent reason that SK has never used a heavy hand in retaliation against these baiting attacks. They know that the immediate consequence to outright war is they lose Seoul. Although the ROK Army can handle the fight against the North, the economic impact of such a conflict has got to be the main deterrent.

I have no doubt that the South would win (with our support of course), but economic consequences would be disastrous. North Korea has enough artillery to light Seoul up like a Christmas tree.Originally posted by lincolnboyAfter watching Games of Thrones, makes me glad i was not born in those years.

Ha fat chance. It is has been 50 years since this all started. I don't think it will end with a peaceful agreement without a war.
North Korea preaches reunification so much it is engrained in those peoples phsyche. They have been programmed to think that is the natural course of action and if need be war is a possible solution to the problem.

Yeah a war with NK is no good... SK has everything to lose, and NK is nutty enough to use chemical, biological, or nuclear weapons.
The only positive is that I doubt china would support NK right now. China wants to play with the bog boys and alienating their largest trade partner would be unwise.
