I think that is less of an ethical question and more of whether it is the correct business decision. And I would say it is a dumb move.

I'm not over here defending NTTA or anything, but I guess I am jaded since I only have CA to compare the tolls to. And theirs are high as fuck as compared to out here.

Southern CA has very few toll roads. Yes it's more expensive, but you can easily avoid them. It's not like North Texas where it seems all new contruction are tolls. Good luck getting around N Dallas, Plano or Frisco and avoiding tolls. Here's a map showing the difference, the green roads are tolls. And for some reason the Dallas map is not showing the Lake Lewisville toll bridge, and GWB is about to be tolls all the way south to I20. F the NTTA.

Usage is down, let's raise prices! Idiots.

I live in frisco by the mall. I work in Dallas and she works in grapevine. Yes I could take 75 instead of the North Dallas Tollway, but we have one car, so I have to take her to work most days, and there's no way to get around 121 and not take an hour to get to grapevine.

It is virtually impossible to live in Frisco and NOT drive on a toll road.

I live in McKinney and work near PGBT and DNT. I used to take the tollways and it was costing me $10 a day in tolls for the wife and I to get to work and back. I got sick of it and now we just use the service roads. My car doesn't get that much better gas mileage using the tollways (especially when they are stop and go alot of the time too) to justify the extra cost.
DNT sucks bad enough during rush hour that it actually doesn't even take that much longer on that stretch for me.
            Fuck toll roads.

O I remember the days of riding the tollway to work, then 6 months later finally getting one of their bills for 3K with late fees. I loved how they screwed up so many of those bills by sending them super later because their systems sucked.
I never paid it, and I dont plan on paying it anytime soon.

                They can suck it.

If memory serves, the "new" 121 was constructed with tax dollars. There was a time when the cities along 121 got to vote whether to keep it a state highway or a tollway. I remember The Colony voting "yes" to make it a toll road because the ONLY major highway for it is 121 (good job, making you pay to leave your house). I want to know what kickbacks those cities got.

I take 121 when I don't feel like doing the 635-to-75 thing. It costs me about $9 to drive it one way (no toll tag).

I loathe toll roads, as the funds are never spent on what's intended and they always justify keeping them toll roads even after their paid for.

I started doing the same thing. Instead of going from Custer to Legacy via 121 I just started taking McDermott/Headquarters. It adds about 4 minutes to my commute and cuts the tolls out of the picture. Not bad.
