You almost have to figure every used car and/or part deal is a chance to get fucked over, and deal from that point of view. Example:
I bought an 81 F150 4x4 shortbed about a week ago, got the usual "it was running fine a month ago then stopped firing" bullshit, they said it needed a distributor. Talked the guy way down to $500 since it would bring that in parts.
Got it home, started checking. disty not spinning with engine turnover, pull valvecover, no valve action with engine turnover. Pull timing gear cover, the fiber top cam gear is shredded, so install a new timing set. Upon engine turnover noticed 2 stuck valves and a bent pushrod. Monkey with it for a bit, unstick the valves, get her to fire again, and it has a burnt exhaust valve.
I figured the engine was trash, but it has great cylinder wear, and I picked up a re-manufactured head dirt cheep, so now I have less than $700 total for a good running truck.
Anyways, expect every seller to fuck you royally and jew them down. If they are quick to start dropping prices, be suspicious.

Issue solved, after some rude/angry messages ( from myself and a mutual friend), the seller called me and gave me some B.S. excuses. He also agreed to pay for parts and labor since I've already torn the car down.
We'll see if he is true to his word though.Ded

From your story, it sounds like the guy filled up the coolant and told you to come over and look at it. What were some of the excuses?

Exactly what I was thinking. I asked the dude if it uses or leaks any fluids, he was adamant that it didn't. Then when he called me he admitted that he had to fill the coolant about once a week, I almost lost it, lol.
He also said he was out of town, then he was at a friends house that is semi local. Then he was at his parents house in Flowermound. He told me the money is gone, that he had to pay rent ( who pays rent on the 11th of the month, unless he was really broke and late on rent) He said he left his phone at home, but someone answered multiple times, hung up and the phone was busy some times when I called. The guy lives with his daughter and thats it, I asked him who answered if he didn't have the phone. He dodged that question a couple times.
Turns out our mutual friend knows him well and told me he was into coke a lot, last time he saw him. All makes sense now.Ded

The one I wrecked cost way more and it was a 4door auto that was close to stock.
