I am actually trying to have a good discussion with him and am trying to back my stuff up. When we were looking at trucks we compared the two and took all things into consideration. We could not justify the extrea cost of ownership on the diesel so we stuck with a gasser.

More proven than your side? The inital investment on the gassser is so much cheaper to begin with that it makes up for the higher resale price of the diesel.

Cost of ownership is a better metrics to measure a vehicle for most of the population ( people who do not use their vehicle to make money ie. hot shotting etc) than ROI.

Cost of ownership= Purchase price +maintenance +fuel for life of ownership +major repiars - sold price when you sell it.
