Seriously. How terrible it will be when he finds out later on in life.

I think the cop and all hospital staff deserve a lot of credit for not murdering her. I had a hard time watching my son be put under anesthesia. It looked like the life left him, I can't even conjour up the thought of me removing the life.

I thought doctors were suppose to have compassion.

I'm sorry that I dont meet your expectations for a physician. Thats why I didnt go into primary care as for the most part, I dont like people.

As far as my comment being harsh...maybe so, but 90% of the black people I see in the ER (note that I didnt say all black people, just the ones that come to my ER) are pieces of shit. So I am just playing the odds.

You don't like people but you decided to care for them? I notice most of your threads revolve around how you hate different kinds of people, I'm genuinely interested in why you decided to become a doctor.

Is it JUST the black people that come through? My observation is that MOST people that come through the ER over a PCP are pieces of shit.

Did you just end up in the ER or was your path Emergency Medicine? After your residency did you just remain stagnant or did you enter any fellowships? Majority of the ER docs I know that have remained ER docs after their residency because they are fucking lazy. The nurses and rad/lab techs practice more medicine then they do. They are also the arrogant cocksuckers that carry their complex.

Not really directed at Dave, just a rant about ER docs in general. I have a general dislike for most of them, but also know a few decent guys that are good doctors. Dave may fall into the good guy category, I don't know him at all.

Deep down, Dr.Dave has a good heart, that I don't doubt. In my opinion, it seems he's abit burned out and who wouldn't be with what he has to see on a daily basis? The fact he's been able to do what he does for years and keep his sanity amazes me. Spend one evening in a ER room and take a real look around to what is happening in there. You too, would lose faith in humanity in time dealing with that nonsense.

He gets lied to his face everyday with bullshit stories of how an accident happened. People lie to his face treating him as if he were born last night, or he was some kind of idiot. He knows a neglected child/wife when he sees one and not some kid/wife who fell down some stairs.

He deals with some of the worst people in society who are having one of the worst days of their lives being in the ER on a daily basis. That would take a toll on anyone.

Was what Dave said harsh? Certainly, but coming from his perspective, I can understand why he thinks the way he does. Follow him around a day at work before judging his experience and opinions. Dave's shoes are not ones I would like to be in, no matter how much money the man makes.

Emergency medicine is a specialty in and of itself. You dont just default into ER. I specifically went into emergency medicine and couldnt do any other type of medicine.

I went into medicine for the income and emergency medicine specifically, for the pace and unpredictability. I did not go into medicine to help people. That is a BS stereotype.

I am good at what I do and rank #1 in my group in patients per hour, patient satisfaction and presentation to disposition time so I am doing something right regardless of my prejudices.

I consider myself quite apathetic to peoples problems and really could care less about most people's issues, but I've always had a deep respect for doctors. But, since I really don't care about helping people I never pursued the occupation.

I agree, but there are many people that I take care of that make being a physician well worth it...but for the most part, my patients are idiots.
