I don't think there is video of it. It happened after the truck race on friday. There was some contact on a non-race lap between Busch and a Childress truck and it sent the old man over the edge. It actually wasn't Kyle's fault this time, he's on his best behavior right now since he's on probation.

I think your neighbor is unstable and would shit on you again given the opportunity. You didn't do anything wrong.

When he returned he told me that he called the police back and asked that they ignore his earlier request. Like I said, he ended up being an okay guy, and we all have our moments. I would have thought like you guys that my buddy must have done something crazy to make him that mad (although this is not typical of his character), but the guy just said he was just hauling down the road (mind you while it is a 88cc big bore, the gearing limits the bike to a max speed of maybe 45mph). And again, I am by no means claiming to be an innocent party, it isn't street legal and he most likely was going above the posted 30mph speed limit, I have no problem with that, but the immediate aggression that he presented was really something that took this to the next level.

The point of this post was just that as I saw him approaching my home (the second time) my adrenaline level sky rocketed and I went into protection mode (thus grabbing the pipe). If there is only one place on this earth I refuse to be threatened it is my home, and since my last request to him was to leave my property, and we left on such bad terms, I felt that odds were he was coming to settle the score. When I told my buddy about the subsequent encounter he thought it was crazy that I'd have approached him with a pipe, which made me feel like either a crazy man or a wuss. I reminded him that had the guy had ill intentions that pipe (however ineffective it might be against a gun) might have saved my life. As far as the neighbor, he looked pretty shocked that I came out with a pipe as well, whoops.

I think you handled right. If I would have seen him pull up the second time, I would have gone in the house and met him with tactical shotgun. (mainly because I would have considered him bat shit crazy) I don't care what kind of a flash back he had. I have the exact same 50 in my garage and it will not go fast enough to be considered hauling ass. There is a right way and a wrong way to approach someone. He was dead in the wrong.

People ride their bikes up and down the street all the time here, I have no problem with it as long as the watch for cars.

I don't think you over-reacted at all. I keep a .380 in my toolbox (not so much for situations like this one....b/c we've had some wild dogs out here that have killed some other animals and also once chased my daughter on her bike) I'd likely have met him on the driveway with that if he was acting a fool like you say and then actually showed back up.

Glad to hear that it ended well.

I still think you should have dropped a sucker punch during the hand shake.

Then he might have returned with a gun

Then you could have justifiably dropped him as soon as he brandished the weapon.

Just something you both could have laughed about later over beers at the neighborhood BBQ.

Based on the initial encounter, I'd say your reaction was very appropriate. I'd have done the same. Regardless of what happened to his brother, he needs to get his bi-polar disorder squared away before he gets himself hurt going onto other people's property all riled up.

Exactly, I can see someone just having one of those days and doing something stupid and running his mouth out of rage, but after he cooled off I'd have thought he'd have the sense to approach my home with a little more caution then he did. Mind you my house is like probably 15-20ft above the street, and this guy comes up walking up the drive like he's an old pal. If it were me I'd have maybe just sat at the bottom for a minute to see if I'd once again come to him before I made my way up to God knows what waiting for me at the top!
