Certainly not the norm, but it seems to be light-hearted fun. It seems to me that perhaps losing his leg has allowed him to take a much lighter look at life, and he just wants to give a few laughs.

If he's doing it for the sole purpose of embarrasing his kid, that's definitely a bit off.
