Has anyone had to use the buyer protection services?? I am looking at buying something semi-expensive and worry (the seller only has 2 feedback, positive though). It is a really good deal so I don't want to lose out on it. TIA.

I have. As long as you use PayPal and are sending to a confirmed address, then you will be covered.
I had a lady in Utah file a claim against me alleging I didn't send the item she won on my auction. I just provided PayPal fraud team the UPS tracking number. That along with her address being a confirmed PayPal address, the claim was ruled in my favor and dismissed. I think the monetary amount for the item was in the neighborhood of $100 It was a couple of years ago.
If you follow those rules, the protection works for both buyer and seller. For really high dollar items, I get a tracking number & signature required. Over 200 transactions and that's the only claim I've had filed against me as a seller, fortunately.
