My CMO works in bullshit titles. I've been the Press Secretary, Communications Director, Development Director, regression analyst, compliance analyst, and basically anything that sounds better than 'Company Bitch.'

I can't complain, though. They treat us well and I'll make partner in August, so he can call me whatever he wants. :-)

Their idea wasn't on par with mine last year, but again, uncertainty comes in to play. The economy is in the shitter. Sure, I could take a job making quite a bit more, but how long would that last? How am I sure that the new company would be as stable as far as job security goes as where I'm at now? That's what I mean when I say uncertainty. Additionally, because of the reputation I have built, the relationships I have, and how fierce competition has become once the economy tanked, I'd have to sign a no compete with any new job I take. I'm not comfortable with that. Some competitors require a 1 yr no compete, some require a 6 month, but really, each no compete is tailored to each person. In all likelihood, mine would be very specific, including certain accounts, and if things didn't work out, I'd have to take a 50% or more pay cut, go back to the bottom of the food chain, just to keep a foot in the industry until the no compete expired. That's not a risk I'm willing to take at this point. Especially when I'm a future partner in the firm I am with now. Though, again, I'm not so certain about all that anymore. We are 3 years in to their 5 yr succession plan, and not one fucking thing that was supposed to happen, has happened. Those that are supposed to be gone, are still here, except one, and that's only because he blew his brains out.

I took a "raise" that is 10-15k less than what I was making last year with OT just for a title and a foot in the door. Shit happens, but you know what, Abdul and friends that are taking jobs overseas works more, less and doesn't bitch about it.

Obviously this doesn't apply to you specifically but it should change a perspective to an extent. IF it is THAT bad well then do what Dave said.
Don't get me wrong. I'm thankful that I am gainfully employed. Especially with the market the way it is. But make no mistake about it. I have a deep passion for what I used to do. It's a big part of why I've been successful. But when you're forced against your will to get away from what you do, what you enjoy, etc, resentment starts to grow and passion starts to die out. I'm still passionate about this industry. I just want to get back to selling for fuck's sake. The shitty part about it all, is the shit I'm doing now is common fucking sense stuff. It shouldn't require hours and hours and hours of my time. It's shit that never should have happened to begin with, or when it does, it should be corrected immediately. Instead, I'm waiting weeks for answers, and due to that, it's hurting my relationships. Sales is more about relationships and selling yourself, than it is the product you are selling.

I hear you. I am the lead for 26 employees in North America half are handled remotely. It is in no way in my job description but I have to baby sit another 60 employee all over the world. That in itself is about triple the work I am supposed to be doing.

With all this budgeting going on companies are forced to cut staff and make everyone do more. Sometimes it is overwhelming sometimes (for those that dont do shit anyways) it puts them on level playing field as everyone else. Some quit, but that is the name of the game.

I find it humurous you get some guys who threaten to quit for silly issues. I tell them have at it (not really but I sure wish I could). You are replaceable and don't you think the world revolves around you. lmao. Replacements can be had in under 2 weeks. Funny people... Those same people usually apply back with us in a few months.

                • I hear ya...you just have to do what you think is best for you. From the outside looking in, the current job is just a crutch (that's becoming a prosthesis) until something better comes along. If you love to sell, and you arent selling in your current position...and your passion for this business is dying, it's time to make a change. Nothing is certain...even your current job.

                  • On a side note, I noticed an ad in the Job Forum for making $125,000-$200,000 selling fences and roofs! Give that a shot Brent and spread the wealth!

                    • For the record, non competes are a joke and not enforceable. They can threaten all they want, but unless they are compelled to literally take you to court, they can't do anything.

The company I work for is Avteq. We are a manufacture so I handle our distribution channels and some of the larger direct partners we have.

lulz. No thank you, sir. I don't even think I could sell anything else, as in, sales in another industry. I've invested my entire adult life in this, and that's a lot to walk away from. I'm not your typical sales guy, really, definitely not like the other guys I work with. I've just got relationships that go back to when I was a kid (my Dad's been in the industry 50ish years), and I know my product, and competitor's product. My customers trust that I'm not going to sell them some snake oil, or sell them something they don't need just to keep coming in. They trust I will tell them exactly what they need, even if one of my manufacturer's doesn't make it.

See, I hear this all the time. But I see it happen daily, where so and so has to suck it up, and do something else until that no compete runs out. And the thing is, the people I'd work for have exponentially more money to fight it out in court than I do. Such is life, I guess.

I know things will eventually turn around. When there is a corporate takeover, in any business, shit gets fucked up for a while. Things have to change, and they will. It's a matter of whether or not I will be able to cope with the bullshit until they eventually do turn around.
