  • Engine Bay Painting??

I'm planning on pulling my engine and smoothing out the engine bay. How much is the going rate, or have you guys paid to have your engine bay painted. Considering that I do all of the prep work except masking and painting.

If you want to smooth it, bank on at least 1k.

Just for them to paint? I'm talking about me filling in all of the holes and smoothing. I'd even primer and sand too. I just don't have the resources to paint it.

If you can properly prime it. You should e able to paint it. Depending on the color. Materials will eat up a couple hundred bucks

Ok, so lets just assume that I can not prime. Just for them to prime and paint, I'm ok with a few hundred bucks, just a grand sounds a lot steep for me. Especially if I'm gonna do most of the "smoothing" work.

I have a good friend that does paint and body work for very reasonable prices. Shoot me a pm if you want his name and number. He's a legitimate paint and body guy, not some douche working out of his garage.

Unless you are really good at bodywork...your smoothing wont be enough. Shops around here charge $40/hr for prep work + materials last I knew. They will go back over your mud work, couple layers of primer, sanding... Im guessing they will have 4-6 hours of prep labor... I believe the shop by me charged $15/hr for materials. So $55 times say 5...then, you need paint. $60/hr + materials.

                Paint and body isnt cheap

So a grand probably isn't too far off? Damn, then I'm fucked if I scratch it when I put the engine back in, lol. Is there an easy way to do that from the top? With the tranny attached, or am I asking too much?

Damn, so I'm assuming that it's a lot safer to put it in from the bottom attached to the k member and all that other happy shit, lol.

You can stab a motor/trans from the top...but odds are you will hit the firewall with the transmission
