I just test rode one of these last week, very slow and lazy feeling. Reminded me of riding a cruiser back in the old bmx days I will stick to my old school 26" rims for now.

What bike do you currently ride, and what did you test ride?
Not much wrong with a 29er. The first time you ride a 29er, the steering will feel slow, but you adjust to it after a couple of rides. When 29ers "were" a fad...the geometry and suspension angles were still being tinkered with by the manufacturers. A lot of that stuff has been ironed out over the last 2-3 years. The newest 29ers can do everything and do it as well or better than a 26" bike.
^^boom. I picked up a new speshy hardrock sport disc 29er today and it blows my 26 out of the water on distance comfort (the lockout was a must) It also kicks my 58cm single speed 700c roadski out of the water. I put fifteen miles today, road and trails and I will not be riding my other cycles until further notice.
Oh trust me, I know. I never said I'd buy it. Lol! Was just blown away that Walmart, of all places, would have that. I on the other hand have a Specialized FSR XC 26" MTB. :-)
I wouldn't ride a bike put together by folks who made minimum wage and prior to assembling the bike, probably did a milk cleanup on isle 7.
Edit...nice to see you have a FSR XC. I wouldn't mind having one either...but in 29er flavor.
Wal Mart used to pay flat rate to put together bikes. They'd have folks whose only gig was to come in and try to put as many together as fast as they could so they would make pretty decent change.
I don't remember, I think it was 10$ a bike or something a few years ago. Not sure if that has changed.

Pretty sure academy operates the same way, they hire out all the assembly it's not done by academy employees. That being said when I was at academy in college they would just slam that stuff together and could care less if it was tight, straight or even assembled right. I saw several bikes on the floor with the fork on backwards lol.
