From a local weather blogger:
One of the first times I ever blogged live out of the National Weather Service, Norman Forecast Office, not much happened. As I prepared to leave, Mike Foster, the meteorologist in charge, told me that the day would help me prepare for “When, not if” something happened.
I have been in this forecast office for the Lone Grove tornado a couple of years ago in February and last year’s May 10 tornado outbreak. Today, is quite possibly a “When” day. Please be safe today.

My neighborhood association just sent this...
After 4pm in Dallas/Fort Worth Metro Area, Counties Included (Wise/Denton/Dallas/Tarrant/Kaufman/Collin/Grayson,etc)
will see an outflow convection that will be producing tornadoes, very large hail and very high straight line winds.
An area (as of 12 pm today) just North of the Dallas County line has been included in the "high risk" area. There are two terms the NOAA and Weather.gov rarely use: PDS (Particularly Dangerous Situation) and HIGH RISK. They only use those when there are life-threatening and massive injury potential weather for high end EF-4 and EF-5 tornadoes, they're RARE.
Today's is listed as "high risk" AND PARTICULARLY DANGEROUS SITUATION) http://www.spc.noaa.gov/products/watch/ww0356.html
What this means to us:
Areas affected with long-track EF-4 & EF-5 probability: Bridgeport, Runaway Bay, Denton, OKC, Tulsa
Areas affected with moderate to high risk probability of long-track EF4-EF5 tornado: Dallas, Irving, Carrollton, Ft. Worth, Keller, etc.
The entire DFW Metro area on up North to Oklahoma is going to be subject to some extreme weather today. The weather service has stated there is a 100% chance of tornadoes throughout Oklahoma and into North Texas(Denton/Wise) Counties. The rest of us have at least a 40-60% chance of some pretty epic weather.
One weather channel worker just north of the Red River has stated that this could rival the April 27th breakout which killed over 316 people throughout AR/Alabama. He then went on to say that this is something of biblical proportions. Call your families in Oklahoma and make sure they have shelter to go to. Some Oklahoma schools are letting out early and afternoon activities are cancelled. Some schools in Northern Counties of TX are canceling activities as well.
After 4 pm, it's supposedly GAME ON until midnight tonight. Keep your eyes up, have a plan for your family and be prepared. If things start to look too wicked, we may see about going into the basement of a local building. I'll send out a followup later if this changes.
Weather Tiff's QUICK TIPS FOR SURVIVING A STUPID TORNADO:
Don't wait for sirens, according to my meteorologist friend, they aren't meant to be heard in your home.
Interior room, no windows on the lowest floor.
If you live in an apartment, make friends with your lower level neighbor. It's time to share the tub.
If you can get below ground, that's the best option. Take water, snacks, pillows, sleeping bags.
TWEET your location, or FACEBOOK / CITY update it before the storm hits you. (We've seen in Joplin, social media works when cell phone towers do not) We want to be able to dig you out.
Place mattresses over your head AND pillows/sleeping bags. In large tornadoes the mattresses will blow off, have extra fluff to protect your head
Put small children in HELMETS. (seems extreme but, two kids were saved in Joplin because their mom put helmets on them, one child was hit in the head with a toilet as it was lifting off, he was saved by a silly bike helmet. If you have an adult helment, rock that puppy with pride.)
Have fun with this, it rarely happens in DFW, this year seems to be something America hasn't seen since the late 1800's. Enjoy the hysteria.
If you are out in your car, ditch the car. Run to a corner store and get in the freezer, it's miraculous how well those freezers literally stand up to the large violent tornadoes and save MANY lives.
Do not park or hide under and overpass. That movie made it seem all cool and chic, it lied. You can die.
If you're outside with no car and have nothing prepared-God Speed to you as you duck and cover like an elementary school kid in the local ditch.
Bathtubs on the interior of the house really are the best. A lot more wood goes into the construction of a bathroom than other portions of the house, especially closets. Grab your rubber duckies and hunker down.
Have flashlights and a snack/water ready to go. Oreos are quite delightful during eventful historic weather.
Again, make sure to tweet or facebook your final destination as the storm bears down on you. In the midst of chaos, tweet-away!
Again, don't mess around with this. The wx people I've been following since 2008 on twitter are stressing this is a dire situation for Northern Counties and a potentially dire and life-threatening situation for us in Dallas - Ft. Worth - Irving Metro.
Below are Links detailing the weather statement from noon today, they'll upgrade this in an hour or so. The line is already forming as of 1pm out west of here near Abilene. Keep watch my friends! I'm hopeful this won't be too big an issue for Irving, but you never know.
