If you already have it and haven't installed a crap load of apps, now is the time to do it. The "recovery time" is far shorter since there's less to reconfigure/reinstall.Originally posted by aCid View PostWell I went ahead and bought a HTC Inspire yesterday and ditched my P.O.S Iphone 3gs. The total time to root is about 15min start to finish. The lengthy part is getting it to look and "feel" how you want it to.
I'd be happy to help you out whenever you're ready. Same goes for you HTX.

I guess I'm just not understanding it too much. "Look and Feel"? What would look different? how would it feel different?Originally posted by Tx Redneck View PostIf you already have it and haven't installed a crap load of apps, now is the time to do it. The phone won't physically feel different. There can be different button layouts, different operating system options like the animation as you slide from one screen to the next. I doubt there's anything you CAN'T change once you jailbreak/root your phone.

Have a look at the first 3-5 posts of the various ROM threads and you'll see the difference in appearance of those roms vs. your stock phone.Originally posted by HarrisonTX View PostI guess I'm just not understanding it too much. Feel wise, many of the modded roms have tweaked kernels that are much quicker that the stock one, they also allow overclocking, undervolting....

Thanks for the info man. I'm not sure how the data plan works, but I'm due for an upgrade, just not sure if I want to jump into the smart phone world right now. How is the battery life? I had an HTC a while back and I would turn ALL the extra shit off and the battery would be half way dead by lunchtime after charging all night. Plus, it was heavy as shit. I'm probably looking to get another phone in about 2 weeks. My phone is dying at random times talking and the screen cracked a few days ago so I can't read texts or see who's calling me.Originally posted by Tx Redneck View PostWorst Buy has the HTC Inspire free w/ 2yr extension. I have one and it's an awesome phone. Wish I could have gotten a deal like this.

Data plan like internet usage? Unless you have unlimited, you can pick above 2gigs a month, or below 2 gigs a month. I had unlimited 3G, and the best buy guy said it wouldnt transfer when I went to a 4G phone. I'm not going to lose my unlimited, so I went to the ATT corporate store, had them turn it to 4G. No issues.Originally posted by jdgregory84 View PostThanks for the info man. Well, I have no data plan right now. I'll probably use the facebook app, and maybe a couple of games like words with friends when at "work." At home, I'd rather be on my laptop. I checked out a few of their plans the other day and it's like $15 for 200Mb, $25 for 2Gb, and then another for more than that. I just don't know how data transfers on phones for casual web browsing every once in a while, and online app gaming. Money is tight right now so I would like to go with the least expensive one, but I don't want to go over my limit and end up paying a butt load.Originally posted by HarrisonTX View PostData plan like internet usage? JDG, the battery is ok, nut can be horrible too. It's really dependent on the amount of time the screen is on and its brightness level. The design of the phone itself doesn't allow for a legit higher capacity battery and w/ the screen being 4.3", it can eat a battery in short order if you're on it constantly. You can get it and use it for up to 30 days to see if it fits your needs then return it if not.
AFA data plans, I'd personally get the 2gig plan. @ $10 more per month, it beats the alternative of an additional $10 for each gig over the allocation you originally purchased. I'm on mine a lot, I've dl'ed multiple roms w/it a month and the closest I've gotten to the 2gig cap was right @ 100megs shy.
It's not a perfect phone, if there's even such a thing, but it's extremely capable and very fast.
