I just left the airport after getting my wife checked in to fly back home this morning and I am already back in the hotel about to grab a quick nap. I figure I can get two hours of rest (was a long and late night with an early early morning) then start making my way. I should still make the Porsche Cup by 11:00 and stay for the Formula 1 race. I just have to be carefull and plan my return trip.
I could have been house sitting? I would have videoed myself reenacting the flyswatter routine. Hell, I could have had David (Cobrajet69) join me!

Sorry Matt, I could not afford your rates anyways and the house sitter we have came very cheap also. It is a bonus that she and our two pups are familiar with each other already too.

The race: I got there at the end of the Porsche Cup; my nap went a little long. The journey there was in fact that; a journey. I had to catch a cab to the train station (too lazy to walk the mile plus and I needed to conserve my energy) after I discovered all the directions I was being given were for the train and not the METRO that I was already familiar with. The train was approximatley 30 minutes and crammed with other race fans. When we got to Montmelo` it was a 40-45 minute walk; a lot of up hill and I walk pretty fast. I estimate the walk was a good 2 miles from the train station to the track.

The weather was pretty damn nice but then again this is Barcelona. The high was 27*C, I don't know the conversion but it felt like 80*F. The sun was out in full force though and I took advantage of it (our entire 12 day cruise we had maybe 4 good hours of nice and hot sun). Man did I get burned. My head, it it was not red before today from walking and touring Barcelona for the past 4 days; it is beat read today. It is a good thing my wife was not here she would have roasted and we both would have been misserable then. My arms are toasted nice and red. But the whole time I was there which was a little over 4 hours there was a great breeze.

The race was great. It was so loud I could not hear the announcements so I can not even tell you who won. I got up at about the 110 lap mark and started to meandor and make my way to the exit when the race finally ended. The sounds and the smell were a car nuts dream. The only problem was I sat at the exit of a turn with a long straight away afterwards. The sound of them going full throttle was intense and I did not have ear plugs. In fact two hours later sitting in my hotel room my fucking ears are ringing pretty bad. When I got up to walk I did find cheap foam plugs for $2Euro a pair. I was not suprised to be paying over $3.00 US for a $.20 item.

I got a lot of pics but did not get near the pits or paddock. Fact is I was smoked after being in the sun and enduring the roar/whine of the cars for 4 hours so I followed the crowd out of the race park.

The track and staff were great. I never once saw the caution flag but I know for a fact they had several wrecks. That tells me that they got the wrecks cleaned up fast enough it did not affect the race where I was sitting.

Anyway, I need to sort through my photos and videos then upload them to post. So pics to follow.

You can come to spain and join their unemployment rate of 23%. The beggers and homeless are one part I will not miss.

Coming out of turn 3 with a short straight and turn 4 is a 180*

If this is not the last lap it has to be the second to last.

I don't want to live there, just vist! My mom went over there about 10-12 yrs ago and really dug it.

I'm thinking I'll settle on New Zealand.

Glad you enjoyed it! It is certainly a spectacle. Was this your first major race (of any series)? I keep extra ear plugs in my camera bag for the races - not the sunscreen though. I like the vids.

I have done F1 before and a few NASCAR and tons of NHRA (hell I have stood between L. Dixon and another top fuel at the water box during friday nights of lights). Ear plugs did not even dawn on me until they opened pit lane. F1 was not my trips purpose to Barcelona heck I didn't even buy my ticket until the night before. It was a spontanious thing but something I wanted to do here.

edit: my ears are still fucking ringing

The video does not quite do the engines/exhaust notes justice. I estimate I was under 75yrds from them and it was deafening/painful and erection forming/pleasant at the same time.

Damn it my ears are still fucking ringing.

That Spanish track is a good one - some decent passing zones.
