My cube neighbor just decided I should know that he is finally making a solid shit now that the docs have adjusted his meds...oh and his insomnia is finally fading as well. Again because of a med adjustment. All of this was said to the back of my head while I had my head phones on and was reviewing a firewall log. He finally sat back down at his desk after I ignored him for a few minutes longer.

I work from home. If it were not for dfwmustangs, I would have no interesting conversations. All my people are so busy, we seldom get to chitchat about life. I miss that and going to lunch with my peers. I do like to hear my kids playing as long as they aren't too loud.

If its too quiet, I go crack the whip to find out why I don't hear some dishes rattling or a vacuum running.

One of the funnier stories, I had a gal that would come over every two weeks to clean the house when I lived in Seattle. My office area was downstairs by the front door, so no "formal" office area with a door, it was open space with wood floors, like a second/formal living area, opposite of a formal dining area. Behind that was a half bath area.

So I'm on the phone finalizing negotiations with a prospective client and beforehand I tell cleaning lady not to vacuum, I'm on the phone. She decides to clean that half bath area behind me. Of course the timing was right and she was cleaning the toilet and flushes it during a lull in conversation.

Client: "Was that a toilet flushing?"

Me: "..... ummm.... yeah.... but I can assure you it was because the cleaning service is here."

The biggest pain in the ass about working from home is you have no fucking clue how many door to door salesmen ring your doorbell during the work day. They are all either selling home security, pest control, energy services, or lawn mowing. I swear I get 2-3 people here per day and my dogs go apeshit.
