This but I bought a "stainless" North American Outdoors grill from Target back in late '05 for like $175. The only problem I've had with it is the igniter went out since I don't keep a cover on it. It's developed some surface rust on the panel that hold the knobs (think it's a lesser grade of SS) but it's been a great grill. I never thought it would have lasted this long.

Don't be a lazy ass, and take care of your shit. The galv steel will be just fine as long as you take care of it.

Even translating to the commercial market, 95+% of the charbroilers out there use a galvanized liner. The only place youll find anything different is USDA Facilities, because chicken fat is corrosive to ALL metal, even stainless. The stainless just lasts a little longer. I've got broilers out there that are 30+ years old, an still rocking strong. And they all have galv liners.

The Perfect Flame units that HD and Lowe's sell are more than you need for home cooking. Stainless burners, stainless exterior, etc. I spent around $700 on mine, over 5 years ago. Havent replaced anything but propane tanks and the battery for the rotisserie ignitor. I take care of it though. I give it a deep clean every 6 months or so. Your grill, like your car, is only worth what you put in to it. And you can get a Lexus, an Accord, or a Kia.

Whoever asked about the IR grills - You're going to spend $1500+ for one that works worth a shit. Anything less, and you're wasting money because it's not going to last long, or even work well while it does last. On top of that, I don't like anything cooked with IR. It gives a very distinctive toast flavor, and I want my steak to taste like steak, not toast. They just aren't for me.

Most likely 430ss. But even 304ss is not rust proof. It's stainless, not rustless.

If I use it for my family of 5, instead of eating out for one meal, once a month, for 18 months, it will save me more than $130.

I have an el cheapo from Walmarto and it has lasted me a year and a half so far and is still solid and in one peice. It also takes a beating being outside all the time and not being covered.

True. I've got a buddy that had one similar, but paid a good amount more than that. Build quality just sucks.

That's what I was curious about before I drop that kind of dime on one,I use the grill more than I use my stove or oven and was just wondering if it was worth it.

That's your opinion. What I said was based on my actual experience. Oh, and my 15 year old, Made in the USA, cast bodied Charbroiler? It was a $99 Target special I bought in 1996...if you include all the parts I've replaced over the years I still have less than $200 in it total. I average using it 3 days a week.

I'm amazed at folks who will spend thousands just to grill hamburgers

Lol. Char-Broil doesn't make things like they used to. As someone else mentioned, they are no longer manufactured in America. It's cheaply made, imported crap. That's fact, not opinion. I'd be glad to meet you at a HD and point out just how cheap, and ineffective their current products are, just to see the look on your face. I'm not speaking from opinion here. This is all education, and experience based fact. It's not like I do this for a living or anything.... There's a reason tons of people on here ask me about nearly anything when it comes to food or cooking. And it's certainly not because I'm talking out of my ass, or don't know what I'm talking about. I might be a little arrogant about it, but I've earned the right to be and have skin on the wall to prove it. But by all means, go ahead. Don't let me stop you from spreading misinformation.

And for the record - Just because all you do is grill hamburgers, doesn't mean thats all everyone else does. My grill is used more than any other cooking platform i have, and more times than not, im cooking for a large group. There's a he'll of a lot more that goes in to the design and engineering of a grill than you appear to understand. All grills are definitely not created equally. But what the hell do I know anyways?

I've got an IR grill that I bought for$ 550 at home depot . I like the way food cooks on it because of the perfectly even heat, all my old grills sucked at heating evely. But for the amount of money I spent, I would have hoped for a little better quality. The knobs on it are giant pieces of Shit and ill be surprised if they even work in a year.
