  • The Warnings Of Anti-Biotics

So the beginning of the year I was bit or had staff, mrsa, or whatever, they're treated the same.

So they prescibe some heavy anti-biotics after 2 shots in the butt for the one on my hand, then I had some kind of mrsa on my stomach, yey, more anti-biotics.
All in all I was taking 2 kinds of anti-biotics for 2 months.
The Doctor's knew I went to the gym and was lifting. During this time I was lifting heavy.
Well a week left of my 2 round anti-biotic binge and find out some anti-biotics are black listed due to drying out tendons and causing them to tear.

Well for the last month my left shoulder, elbow, wrist have been killing me and keeping me up at night and keeps me in pain throughout the day. Right shoulder not as bad but does hurt. And is effecting my work etc,.
Left shoulder was scoped in 98', right shoulder was scoped a year ago.

So I got an MRI on the left shoulder alone.
    Results:
    Torn Rotator
    Cyst on bone
    2 types or arthritis
    2 types of tendonitis
    Bersistis
and the tendon has no lubrication so the pain that I get that shoots down my bicep is from it snagging.

Been praying and wondering what to do cause I am the owner and operator of my super small business that consists of heavy lifting and the use of pnuematic tools.
Doc. (not the same one) told me to see a orthopedic surgion to see if I need surgery. Also was told to pretty much stop working out (which I look forward too) and to slow down at work.

Kind of been a little irritated that if the Doc. would of said just one sentence and told me the warnings of the anti-biotics I would've been super careful at work and def. not lefting heavy.

I'll never take anti-biotics again, and have no clue as to what to do.

Doesn't it say on most antibiotics to drink plenty of water to keep from dehydrating?

Sure won't hand out anything for the pain and it's hard to stay in a good mood when you're in so much pain.

I do drink plenty of water, and it causes the tendons to become brittle or something.
I don't know how I can get the lubrication back, I already take triple flex and fish oil daily.

It was probably Flagyl or Levaquin. I was prescribed both and one of them had the same warnings about joint pain and tendon problems. I promptly discontinued use once I found out.

If it was MRSA, I'm glad you took those, OP. That shit is serious.

Correct. I was a germaphobe pretty bad before I had it and after having it I refused to shake hands, touch things in public and was armed with hand sanitizer at all times. It's been over 5 years, but anytime I see a doctor or hospital they still make a huge fuss over it.

After the shots at the ER I was prescribed Cephalexin (Keflex) and it sucked or I was just that bad off. The ER doc about crapped his pants and said if I had waited a day or 2 longer I would of died, but I wound up having it spread and getting some more spots after finishing all my meds and got put on cheaper meds that actually worked and a cream. I work out on a daily basis and have started having issues and had a couple mention the antibiotic scenario you're describing. It's the only anti-biotic I have had in 15 years or so besides 1 z-pack here recently that failed miserably at working.

I don't know why they gave you Keflex for MSRA, the military doctor told me that it doesn't work anymore. I got it from the water in Kuwait while deployed, the docs said there were only 3 antibiotics that were still useful and all had bad side effects. You will have it in your body from now on so you have to be careful and keep an eye out for infections if you get cut or hurt.

Sorry to hear the bad stuff happen...just follow up. And trust me...a MRSA infection can kill people. So you choose...bad joints or possible death

Keflex is a first round pick. Its very good at skin type bacterial infections. You dont just bust out the big guns if you dont need to. We presecribe Keflex all the time for small abscesses, lacerations, etc.

The over use of antibiotics and anti-bacterial cleaning crap over the last couple decades has led to superbugs like MRSA. So dont forget that.

Again, Keflex is still a great medication. Its doubtful the Dr swabbed for MRSA. You dont give out strong antibiotics if you dont have to. It leads to more problems for everyone including yourself. Constant use of strong antibiotics on a person can lead to worse bacteria that becomes even more resistant.

You guys need to understand tons of people carry MRSA everyday. Its not until that staff bacteria gets into a place it shouldnt that it becomes a problem. Antibiotics are prescribed on what should be a severity based need. Someone with bronchitis should get something like a Zpack before busting out Levaquin or Avelox. You dont need an army to kill a civillian

Well I always wash my hand before I pee and after I pee, especially at the gym, then I'll dry my hands with papertowel, then shut water off and open the door. Now I wear full finger workout gloves as well.

I was told by a lady at the Vitamin Shoppe, her boyfriend play pro arena football and they all got staff, they prescribed anti-biotics and didn't tell them the warnings either.
His whole career was shot when he blew out his achilles. They actually filed a lawsuit and won.

My right knee gives me hell, but I just push through it as best as I can. I was also diagnosed with a Peripheral Neuropathy in the same leg with the bad knee around my ankle. I've always really wanted to know if it was all related to the MRSA antibiotics, but I don't see a PCP or any doc for that matter besides my obgyn and I doubt he cares about my leg.

This was many years ago so I'm not sure if it made a difference that they gave it first or not, but it sucked! I was swabbed and I was directed I better follow up in the ER within 24 hours and not to go to a PCP. I was given more shots during that follow up. It attacked so bad I couldn't walk for days on my left leg and now I have scars that drive me nuts. When it came back (as soon as I finished the Keflex) it showed up the same knee area and traveled up the left side of my body to my arm. It was pretty scary and they didn't make a real big deal out of it when I had my daughter in 07, but when I had my son last year this nurse went nuts and taped all the supply doors shut, said my son couldn't go in the nursery, etc. My ob told her she was out of her mind and to leave me alone and that baby could go with the others.

Since you're in the medical field can you tell me why the scars appear? Scar tissue built up? The 2nd round of it made 2 small hard scars, but they have pretty much faded out and it takes a long hard stare to find them, but the first huge abscess I had still has the scar that hasn't fully gone away. Mine started out like an ant bite white head and grew over the course of a few days to a baseball. So, now anytime I see anything that even looks like an ant bite and do not remember getting bit I freak out.

It sucks that he didn't say anything, had the pharmacist known, he would have. The contraindications don't typically stick unless they apply to me, thats why anytime I'm prescribed any medication, even if I've been prescribed the med before, I read the leaflet.
