    Texas has that you know.

Texas is awesome, but the DFW is the place that people go to NOT experience Texas.

Born in California and moved here when I was 15. If I can't move to a topical island, than there's no reason for me to leave Texas.

It's a great environment to raise your children.

            Plenty of elbow room.

Plenty of opportunity (in just about any category).

            No state tax.

Great cost of living for what you get out of it.

I really can't think of another place in the Union where I can make as much as I do, doing what I do and living the way I do (when I work Stateside). It seems to be a good balance of lifestyle/pay/opportunity/cost for my family.

There are other places where I can make more, but the cost of living would probably kill me. There are places where my dollar would go a lot further, but it is usually either lacking in opportunities to work, wages are lower, or the environment is less than acceptable for my family.

Y'all can go to hell. I'm going to Texas.

You can't beat TX for environment, cost of living, and climate. I'd gladly trade the 70* temps for a decent school system, decent property values, and a little southern hospitality. My family is here too though, so I'm a little jaded. The sunshine tax get's old.

A little different scenario being that I came out here to Cali as a single guy, but I totally agree. I got a cost of living raise, and the job opportunities are plentiful, but I have an aversion to spending $500k on a starter home.

I have a t-shirt that says exactly that, and I believe it.

No, if you come from the north and stay, then you are forever classified as a damned yankee. I am a lifer, born and raised 100% grade A pure texan. Shocking at how many member aren't actually born here.

                        Fort Lauderdale, Florida

I have been in Texas since 2005 and have only been back to visit family.

I still think Texas is a great place to live and with the exception of places like Colorado and some great scenery, there isn't any other place I would want to live.

I am from Fort Worth originally but my parents moved the family up and down the east coast until I graduated high school. I moved back to Fort Worth 6 years ago but I miss the mountains and trees. I don't see myself staying in FW forever. I need more scenery. I do like Texas though, it is a better place than most of the other states I have lived in.

                            Exactly.

<-- Texan, moved from Austin to Seattle in 2006 and back to Dallas mid last year. Don't plan on leaving again.

Born in Southern California, moved here in 2006. I must be a major minority cause I can't stand this place. I really don't see the greatness of Texas. I will say I have only been in the DFW area so I might be a little jaded. I miss the Mojave desert, I used to go out there and play and run the historical trails out there multiple times a year. The drivers here are the worst I have seen. I will say that Texas has the best gun laws. I do like those.
