What part of the body are you having surgery on? Try to get a specialist in that specific area not just a general surgeon

Ash, BE CAREFUL! I just went through all this a year or so ago. DO NOT schedule a surgery without talking to two or three surgeons. I saw two, one was ready to cut me open that day. I got a second opinion, and have been able to avoid surgery thus far (though it hasn't been an easy road) YOU DO NOT want to get cut open, especially is this is a rotator cuff issue.

Dammit. I can't remember his name for shit! I'll figure it out and let you know. Rotator cuff issues show funky on the MRI, and are often misdiagnosed (per the ortho I used). Mine was misdiagnosed. Apparently Impingement syndrome (a type of bursitis) shows up on an MRI very similar to a torn rotator cuff.

I do have a slight tear, but it's not enough to require surgery at this point. The impingement syndrome was the main cause of my pain.

Yeah I'm trying to aviod it if all possible, thats why i was wanting a good refferal. my MRI says i have both impingement and a tear on the rotator cuff as well as tendinopathy in the supoaspinatus with a small tear. whatever the fuck all that means.

All that from lifting weights that weigh less than my child.

Sounds EXACTLY like my deal. It's supraspinatus, fwiw. I'll dig up his name. I wish Kelly had made it over here, he's the one that referred me to him originally.

I had my shoulder surgery with Dr. Don Buford at Sports Medicine Clinic of North Texas. He's a good doctor, and thorough.

Dr Michael Muncy in Las Colinas. He did my grandmothers broken hip. Very nice guy and I wouldnt hesitate sending anyone to him. He works with the hospital I work at.

I've got a ankle that needs surgery.

You will find two types of surgeons. Those who want you to do everything but surgery first, and those who want to cut you open during the consultation. I like the first type better.

                          Ashley,

I used Dr. Cameron Carmody at Plano Orthopedic and Sports Medicine. He had me try everything possible (injections, therapy, etc) before I had back surgery.

I was to the point to where if I was standing or walking for more than about 10-15 minutes, my back and down the back of my leg and ass were killing me.

After having back surgery it was a huge turnaround. I had a double fusion on L4/L5 and L5/S1. They were both herniated and one of the discs had a tear in it. Surgery was my only option and I came out like a new man.

So, take it for what it's worth. That's just my first hand experience.

                          -Aaron

When I had my Railroad accident dr Paul T Fruedigman at Baylor in Dallas saved my leg when 4 other dr's were just going to cut it off because they said there was to much trauma 8 months later I was walking around. The man is a miracle worker as far as I am concerned and recommend him every chance I get

My brother did a fellowship back in 2006 with this group http://www.wbcarrellclinic.com/physicians/listing working mainly with Dr. Burkhead. He specialized in the shoulder and elbow. My bro was very impressed with him and the work done there.
