  • I'm a horrible business man

I love what I do and enjoy the work, but I completely SUCK as a business man!

Had major issues with my phone over the last couple of weeks and lost a few messages that I needed to return. I don't call customers when I need to. Despise paperwork! But I absolutely LOVE polishing paint! Maybe one day everything will "click" with me and it will all fall into place.

I've told countless people I feel that new business owners need to be required to get an associates degree (at minimum) before being able to operate a sole proprietorship. There are tons of folks out there just like you Nick... Love the trade, hate running the biz! LOL!

I need you to do a once over on my car when I'm done with it BTW.

It's not that I don't know how to do everything, it's that I just don't LIKE doing it. Going to school for it wouldn't do anything to make me like doing it anymore than I already do. I just like the trade, despise the other part of the business.

I know exactly what you mean. When I had my picture framing business, I had the exact same issues. I loved the work, but hated the admin side. I hope it comes together for you too.

It's too bad you can't have someone inside (even part-time) to handle your phone, bills, appointment's, etc. If you're not on a car, you're not making money. There's no telling how many more cars you could do if you were able to concentrate on just that. Phone-time and paperwork take up a LOT of time.

Yeah, at your stage in the game I suspect you probably need an assistant from a administrative point of view.

I don't agree with needing an associates to run a business. Probably a good idea, but I know a few high school drop outs who run their businesses just fine.

Good advice right there ! Maybe getting an associates being a requirement is a bit of a stretch, but there is no substitution for knowledge. Either get it yourself or pick someone's brain who has the experience.

How does that help me WANT to do the job any more? I know how to do it, so thats not the problem. I just despise doing it all. I seriously doubt a degree of any kind will change that.

You need a secretary. Try and find one that will suck your dick as well. Jeremy should be perfect.

Bring in someone that enjoys that side of a business.
