Former Fort Worth deputy police chief arrested in solicitation of prostitution

FORT WORTH -- A retired Fort Worth police deputy chief was arrested Tuesday afternoon on allegations that he solicited sex from an undercover officer posing as a prostitute.

Larry Curtis, who retired from the department in the last couple of years, was booked into the Mansfield Jail but was later let out on a pre-trial release.

Curtis, 55, declined to comment when reached by phone Wednesday morning.

According to a police report, the vice unit was conducting an undercover operation around the 3300 block of East Lancaster Avenue, an area known for prostitution activity.

The report states that Curtis, driving a Dodge Durango, had passed the female undercover officer posing as a prostitute, then turned around and parked near where the woman was standing.

He rolled down his passenger side window and engaged in a conversation with the woman that culminated in him offering her money for sexual intercourse, the report states.

Uniformed officers in the area then approached and arrested Curtis on suspicion of prostitution, a Class B misdemeanor. His vehicle was impounded, according to the report.

"This is a very unfortunate incident; however, we enforce the law across the board," said Lt. Paul Henderson, a police spokesman. "Our focus is public safety and public trust."

Curtis was a lieutenant when the late Police Chief Thomas Windham promoted him to deputy chief in 1997. He had been with the department since 1979.

From LT to deputy chief, huh?

It is just astounding to me that he would spend that long in law enforcement and then do this sort of shit.

So does "I wasn't actually going to pay her" work as a defense, or at least get the chrages lessened to attempted theft of service?

He was promoted on one attribute, and it wasn't his intelligence or work ethic.
