You're smoother then I am, it's a general reaction to me - at least to a point. The second reaction will depend on the animal, but initial reaction time usually does not allow enough time to think about it enough.

Key is not to over-react, which can be easier said then done too.

Don't get me wrong, I'll let off the accelerator and maneuver if there's ample time. But I've nearly been hit head on by some dumb bitch who swerved into my lane, on the brakes, to avoid a squirrel.
