Talk about 1) overreaction 2) failed opportunity to teach these kids valuable lessons outside of the legal system and 3) turn the kids to real assholes by sending them behind bars with real asshole kids.

We're fucked as a country because of cry baby actions like this. I stole as a kid and my parents worked with the damaged party to make them whole. Add embarrassment with working off a debt and a kid turns the corner pretty quick.

Store/concession stand leasers over reacted. He was willing to pay 10 times the restitution and he believes in corporal punishment. Trust me when I tell you the kid got worse from his dad than the courts will do to him.

I guess what you might have to take into consideration how many times this lady has been a victim. She may not be over reacting at all. I am not saying this is a bad kid, but I am saying sometimes things need to happen. Hell she doesnt know if these kids are good or not and I doubt she cares. I filed on two kids the other day that were 13 and took them straight to Lone star were the bad little kids go. I dont feel one bit bad about it either. Let me give you a little back story. One of these kids has ran away about 17 times and has knocked up a girl that is 13 also. He has also kicked in around 10 or so doors to vacant houses and has completely destroyed them with his little friends. At least 100k in damages and he has two little buddies that are in on it, they have even tried to burn a few down. Not to mention they have burglarized 10-15 houses at least, smoke weed, and have huge gang fights weekly. What is sad is that they release them almost as fast as I can put them in. I do not feel all kids are bad like this, as my community has some of the worst, but you can not take up for kids just because of their age. Oh did I metion they had a firearm on them when i got them in the top of a vacant house. It may have turned out to be a BB gun but it looked like an old soviet rifle. They think it is all a big joke but it could end up going real bad for them.

With a track record like that, I would have to agree with you. But these are just kids that made a bad mistake. The roll down door locks like a garage door. Sliding rod on both sides. Locks into the rail. Well this one concession stand out of 3 only had one bar locking it. All the one kid did was slide the door to one side so the bar was not in the hole and lift it up. Don't get me wrong, they all should have known better. i am not knocking that. But it was locked to keep the really honest people out. Once again, I don't care how good the kid is, keep him in a candy store long enough and he will break.

Wow...guess this happens more than I thought...Some friends and I got into the same bullshit when we were 15-16 living in Southlake. Got bored and were fucking around up at the park. Someone pushed open the door and BAM...it just sort of happens. We all got locked up in Tarrant County overnight. Had probation/adjudication for 2 months before the PO realized we were good kids who just did something stupid. The consequences really don't go through your head when you are just having some fun...especially at the age. It is expunged from my record as well as theirs and does not interfere with my adult life.

At 13 I was charged with "Destruction of Federal Property" for a group of us writing in the wet cement outside of some government apartments. When it was all said and done I had something like involuntary probation which really meant I couldn't get in any more trouble for x amount of years.

Of course, it was in a small town with small town politics. Lawyer up.
