I did and they wouldn't rent to him since he didn't have a major credit card for the deposit. I was able to pull some strings with the other company through his insurance claim to expedite things for him. Even though he didn't have the rental coverage on his policy.

i had to do it one time, i had nobody to give me a ride, so i left the headlights on drained the battery, told them it wasn't running and they came and got it, asked me if i needed another car, told them i was getting my car back tomm, don't even worry about.. no questions asked
Depending on which company you rented from, most of the time you can drop the car at a location other than the airport (assuming they have other location) Might save some driving.
