  • What would it take?

To design and build an all out motorsports park somewhere here in Texas? By all out, I mean 1/4mile, autocross, road course, oval (dirt and asphalt), drift course, dirtbike course....all in one convenient location.

What would the interest be in a place like this?

Would it be possible to have all of those tracks sanctioned by the major racing associations in each category?

Other than the shit-tons of cash it would take, would it be possible?

To build and open, or to build, open, and stay profitable?

build, open, and stay profitable...if only enough to keep the place open and in optimum conditions....

Would be cool as shit! No idea the cost, I'm sure pretty astronomical though!

When we raced at Heartland motorsports park in Topeka, Ks they had one. They were having a crash up derby going on at the same time as the ADRL.

The road course actually cuts through the drag strip. Drunk golf cart races was bad ass

That would cost a shit ton, not only to build, but insure.

Yup, the insurance would kill you. Between that, the land, construction, staffing a for a place that size, etc. Better have at least 50MM IMO.

I have seen circle tracks and drag strips operating next to each other on the same piece of land many times but never NASCAR type. The crowds and parking would be insane! I would stay away for that very reason.

In theory it sounds like a good idea though from a money making perspective, unless like the above stated insurance eats too much into the profits. It would cost a pretty penny just to build!

I have thought about this a lot.

The way that I would end up doing it would be to purchase the land with the idea that you will have enough room for a motorsports park.

Build a dirt track for motorcycles/atv's and another dirt track for demolition derby type shit and dirt track racing. As well as associated parking, concessions, and restrooms.

These will be quick to construct and quick to start bringing revenue.

                  Next would be the dragstrip.

Then I would sit back and let my wallet take a break. During this time things would hopefully begin to get established.

Next would be the autocross track.

I would think with all of the people coming to practice on the dirt tracks and autocross tracks that enough revenue could be coming in with limited staffing. The bulk of staff would be when an event is going on. I'm pretty sure the SCCA brings a crew in when they do their races.

Of course, Chump car and 24 hrs of lemons would be invited.

Lastly, I would add the NASCAR track.

I think Andy is pretty close. For a budget facility you'd be looking at $20M

                          50MM is probably pretty close...

They tried to do something like this in Gunter, TX a while back. (2000(or earlier)-2002)

An oval track, road race type track and a 1/4 mile together I believe.

One of my buddys was really into Subarus and rally racing, we were out running around one night. We met up with some folks from our Audi group who were meeting up with some guys who had a shop around Gunterring. Saw some bad ass TAs Cobras and race prep'd cars that night. Anyway they let me and my friend take a couple laps on the dirt track, it was a blast being sideways in a AWD car and drifting the corners..

I did some quick research and found the links below. Looks like they ran out of money. I remember one of the guys who was there that night had mentioned some thing about the costs of insurance were a big deal and it looked like they hit a fork in the road where investors were getting nervous and they might have had another offer in the works for the land.

We've actually been talking about building a skatepark, but I'm afraid it would take too long to become profitable. It would be super cool, though.

I think Chili is just going with the half-pipe in the backyard and some seating areas. lol

                              You mean like Motorsports Ranch?

I know the guy had a hell of a time getting a loan, and I would imagine that in this economy not many people are racing. A lot of people I know arent doing it at current.

Also the drag racing crowd and road racing crowd are much, much different and may not intermingle well.
