Vertnut,
That's the car. I arranged with the guy to pick me up at the Wichita, KS airport. When he arrived I was not impressed. He did hand over all the Saleen documentation but I could tell immediately it was not a 12K mile car as advertised. Rotted rubber trim, body kit in bad need of paint, oil leaks under the hood, just the obvious crap.
Over the phone I had asked point blank if ALL VIN tags were in place including and especially on the fenders. He replied that they were all there. When I arrived I noticed one of the fenders was a replacement. I pointed it out and he was silent. He knew.
I checked the fluids sitting at the airport. There was no, and I mean no brake fluid in the reservoir for the rear brakes. None. I asked him how the brakes were and he said "oh yea, I meant to tell ya the pedal is real soft I think the master cylinder took a sh!t on me". Really?
I then noticed something was funny with the wheels. Turns out he had both rear wheels on the passenger side and both front wheels on the driver side. These cars had 8" wide wheels on the rear and 7" wide in the front. He told me on the phone that he had the correct OE size tires brand new all around. They weren't of course. And to top it off they're directional and facing all kinds of different directions. Wasn't fixable at the airport. The guy was a liar and didn't pay attention.
Here's the deal though, I'm only mad because I was lied to...especially by a guy in the military. I hold these guys to a higher standard and expect more than the lies this guy fed me. I got the car for $8000 and everything on it is totally repairable. It is in fact verified by Saleen as a 1 of 14 so that's something. It's going to take money, but it's doable to make it a quality car again. I'll fix it all and either keep it or get rid of it if I don't fall in love with it.
