  • Joining another branch of the military?

Question for the vets, have any of ya'll changed services after your first term....army to navy, marines to navy, navy to af, etc? I'm seriously considering going back in for a career this time after I graduate college this summer. Only problem is with cutbacks it looks like it's going to be a motherfucker to get a contract to Marine OCS. Am I just a brainwashed jarhead for questioning whether or not I could ever wear another branches uniform with the same pride I did in the Corps?

We have a ton of former Marines in my unit, Air Force. It's all about quality of life.
You remember the stories John use to tell us about the the three chinamen playing Fantan? This guy runs up to them and says, "Hey, the world's coming to an end!" and the first one says, "Well, I best go to the mission and pray," and the second one says, "Well, hell, I'm gonna go and buy me a case of Mezcal and six whores," and the third one says "Well, I'm gonna finish the game." I shall finish the game, Doc.

Completely different path to becoming and officer and general career.

IE I'm a Marine Sgt in the IRR, my contract is up in July and if I can't get a contract for Quantico I'm considering trying my hand in the Navy.

I've thought about it but never did... Now I'm just fucking old... LOL

There are the other services that you might get a ticket to OCS.

If you are going to go back in, go back as an officer.

There's also the Warrant Officer Programs which may be easier to snag...

Navy OCS, do it. And no, that's not branch bias speaking. If it's AF and you're not a pilot, desk jockey. If it's army or Marines and you're not a combat MOS, desk jockey. With the Navy, the desk jockey's are few, most officers are out with their people.
"It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom - for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself."

Marine dress blues pull more wool IMO. But I don't speak from experience.

One of the homos I served with said he liked working out at the Marine Corps gym in Kaneohe because thats where he pulled the most one night stands...more so than any gay bar in Honolulu.

Back when I was still in the Army, around '95 or so, I called an Air Force recruiter about switching services when I ETS'd. At the time the recruiter advised that the Air Force was not taking any prior military from other branches unless you got your degree and went to OCS.

There was a guy in my unit at the time that had been in the Navy before enlisting in the Army, which had given me the idea. I'm sure it just all depends on the service you want to go into.
