Robert's been taking Tanner to the shop since we got him last July. You can see a definite change in the atmosphere since then. It's much more laid back, and customers bring their dogs. It's much easier for parents to bring their kids. Tanner loves playing with them, so the parents don't feel quite as rushed. They spend more time looking around, and ultimately spend more money.

We're in a much different place than the metroplex, though. It's not uncommon to walk into family owned businesses and see a dog. I don't think I've ever seen one at Lowe's or HD.

I really don't see what the problem is. Never even thought twice about it.

I'm generally pretty happy to see a dog in a store, provided it's not acting retarded. Normally it's the proprietor's dog, but a well behaved customer's dog would be just as cool with me.

Most people don't like taking their dogs everywhere. A few here and there isn't a big deal.

            I find it tacky.

The dog would be happier at home. If your only time to spend with a dog is out on your errands, then maybe you shouldnt be a dog owner.

Dude, have you ever owned a dog? Many dogs love going out and about. I used to take my old roommate's dog with me to the park, out for drives, walks, etc, and he was happier than a hog in slop.

^This. Dogs are pack animals and their humans are their pack. Having a well socialized dog who enjoys new people and places isn't tacky, but putting a yapping rat in a hand bag and parading it around town as an accessory is.

Crazy talk.. My dogs LOVE going places, though the two of them together only go to the dog park and Petsmart (for the vet).

When my chocolate was young I took her to Home Depot most of the times I would go. I used it as a socializing tool for her. She was always kept on a short leash and was only allowed near others if they stopped to pet her. Home Depot and Lowes are the perfect types of places to take them as there are wide aisles and concrete floors if you need to clean up a mess.

I probably would never take either of mine to a restaurant just because I wouldn't want to have to deal with it..

I will acknowledge that there are some pretty inconsiderate pet owners out there. I was with Leah's son fishing at a city park on Easter and some Asian dude had a little toy dog on one of those retractable leashes. He was standing really near where we were and his dog was right at our feet sniffing around the bait while we were trying to bait a hook. I actually had to hold the pole high and wait for the guy to walk away to avoid hooking the dog.

This. My dog went everywhere she could with me. HD, Lowe's, Petsmart, duck ponds, the park, etc. She didn't like being left at home alone. I never took her to a restaurant, she'd stay in the car instead. I really don't see a problem with it most places. Restaurants I can understand. But beyond that, you need to get a life if this is what you're complaining about.

As a society, I'm tired of catering to crybabies. I'll take my dog wherever I please, within reason. If you don't like it, well, you can kiss my pasty white ass.

There are very few restaurants that allow dogs anymore. I would never just walk up with my dog and expect to be sat. But if they have an outdoor patio with access to the parking lot, I will ask. If they don't allow dogs? no sweat, he can chill in the truck
