I take my boxer to HD and Lowes all the time. The only issue it causes is all the people that want to come pet her.

I'm with you on this. Keep your pets at home.

I'm allergic to pet dander, and while most of the time, it's not a big deal, I have been out and when more than one dog was around my eyes would water, etc.

The biggest issue is most people are fucking oblivioius anyway to any sort of proper etiquite when it comes to themselves, or their children, let alone dogs. It's easier to just not allow it as a general rule. I've seen several times people letting their dog shit or piss in the aisle and assume the store would just take care of it, and walked away.

And I'm with GE on the restaurant/patio thing, most of the time, the dogs are miserable, and don't want to be there anyway. People tie them to their chair then act like they aren't there, unless they are causing a problem. I'm sure the dog would much rather be in the park, back yard, or asleep at home than hanging out with you while you eat and drink with your friends.

I'm pretty sure you can bring a dog anywhere, unless there is food or something like that. Although I see people bring their dog up to Cafe Brazil and Blue Goose all of the time.

I believe dogs were banned (except service dogs) after this incident. I can see how they would be afraid of the legal liability associated with allowing dogs if something like this happens:

Should dogs be allowed in stores?

The Home Depot is considering banning the animals after a store greeter was rushed to hospital when a customer’s dog bit off the end of her nose.

The building-supply chain allows dogs into stores so long as they are under their owners’ control. But that policy may be changed to allow only service animals.

“You have to weigh keeping those customers happy with the overall safety [of employees and shoppers],” a Home Depot spokeswoman told the Ottawa Citizen. “All it takes is one instance of this to make you evaluate what the priorities are.”

Anne Riel, 39, says she was greeting customers at a Home Depot store in Gloucester, east of Ottawa, on Friday when she bent down to pet a Shih Tzu in a woman’s shopping cart. The dog jumped up and bit her nose, she says. Ms. Riel had to undergo emergency surgery to reattach her left nostril.

“My nose will never be the same again,” she told the Canadian Press.

Pet owners must be responsible for their animals, and if they’re not, bans such as the one being considered by Home Depot may become more popular, Bernhard Pukay, a veterinarian and pet columnist for the Ottawa Citizen, told the newspaper.

“If you get more and more of these stories where dogs bite people in public places or they soil the area and the owner doesn’t clean it up, the more likely you’re going to end up with people calling for legislation to not allow that any more and we don’t want that,” he said.

Corporate Office: Dogs Are Not Allowed Inside Home Depot

GLENDALE, Colo. -- The parents of a 13-month-old girl who was bitten by a dog while they were inside the Home Depot store in Glendale are questioning the store's policy of allowing dogs to be inside the store.

According to Home Depot's Consumer Hotline, the corporate policy is that dogs are not allowed inside the store for the safety of customers and employees. However, when 7NEWS called the Glendale Home Depot, we were told dogs are allowed.

On Wednesday morning, Home Depot spokeswoman Kathryn Gallagher said there was no "formal" dog policy and sent the following statement:
"The Home Depot places a priority on providing a safe environment for our customers and associates. As a practice, we do not allow animals in our stores. However, service dogs and dogs that are non-disruptive, secured properly and under the control of their owner, may be tolerated in the store, at the discretion of the manager on duty and if there is not a disruption to our other customers."

Brandon Ludwick and his girlfriend, Carleen White, were inside the Glendale store on June 26, near the tool section, when they said a large dog approached their toddler daughter, Jordan.

"This dog came up and sniffed her and bit her in the head," said Ludwick. "Her head was bleeding."

"It was so fast," said White.

Glendale police ticketed the dog's owner. 7NEWS spoke to the owner, who said he does not believe his dog bit the little girl.

Ludwick disagrees and said he should not have to worry about dogs inside the store.

"I don't want to see another child or small baby get bit by a dog at Home Depot," said Ludwick.

Jordan is OK but the couple thinks Home Depot handled the incident poorly.

"We haven't even gotten a call from Home Depot," said White. "It's like they are trying to deny or act like it didn't happen."

However, Gallagher said that the company has been "in contact" with the family and are taking the matter very seriously.

Ludwick said the store denies having video of the attack even though 7NEWS spotted multiple cameras directly above where the attack took place.

No one from the Glendale Home Depot would comment on the event. A manager told 7NEWS that we needed to contact the corporate office.
