Cool tools you have or have gotten as gifts?

I've made a few recent acquisitions for my shop.

I've told my wife that this is what I want this year. I think it'll be coming out of my personal account. It's a Delta 46-460 Lathe. Probably the best midi lathe on the market..

Ok, that was not meant that way. Been redoing my front entry. Adding crown mold, new tile, base boards......it works great for all kinds of stuff.....

It would probably be detrimental to a vag......just sayin'

Simply redoing the front entry doesnt require a dremel... you coulda done that with a cheap pair of whisker cutters

LOL, It worked great for cutting the caulk and finish nails on the old baseboard, grinding up the old thin set under the tiles.....let's see....what else....It tore up the linoleum (sp) in the spare bath with ease...

Damn, that magnetic fingertip looks handy as hell!

You won't use it every time your working but it comes in handy when you can almost reach the dropped part(nut, bolt, etc).

I have good luck with my Hitachi 14v drill - the first one lasted 10 yrs. Actually it still works, it just smells like a burned up electric motor if it's under a load. I bought my 2nd one earlier this year and they all take the same battery.

Also, now(Christmas time) is going to be a good time to find the combo packs at a good price at lowes/home depot.

Absolutely. My Dewalt 18v driver is almost kaput. The batteries only hold a 10 minute charge and the motor is starting to burn out. So now I've got my eye on a Li-Ion combo pack. I'm thinking of going with either a Ridgid or Makita. IMO Dewalt is starting to go down in quality. Stanley owns them, Delta, and Porter Cable. They got everything screwed up now. Ridgid seems to be moving up in both quality and innovation. As for Makita, well they've always made great stuff. Not as innovative as the others but damn good quality.

I have had to buy everyone of my tools. I have a huge collection of Dewalt cordless that I built up last year. Maybe this year my wife will catch a hint and buy my miter saw and portable table saw.

After 15 years of marriage I can safely tell you that women do not get the hint.

Give her a list of the stuff you want. Make sure you include model numbers and the places it can be purchased from. That is the best way to get what you want.

My wife is a great lady but she know jack about tools. If I give her a list, I get exactly what I've been looking for.

I have never gotten one tool worth a crap from a women . On the other hand the best tool I ever got as a gift is my phnematic valve spring compressor . I can strip a v8 head for a spring or seal change or a port job in 2 minutes flat . Its got a million miles on it and still works like new .

One of my batteries are shot, but the impact works great. And it's 1/2".

Power is good, and the price was right (it was a gift). If I were a professional mechanic, I think I would have shelled out some more scratch. But for me, it works.

I prefer Makita usually, but I cannot justify the extra expense for as little as I use it.

You can have the battery packs rebuilt, and most of the time with much better battery's than what come from factory. Battery's plus.

Yeah I havent messed with those yet. I wonder if those are lithium ion polymer batteries, aka "LiPo". I have messed with those in RC vehicles and they are awsome but dangerous. You are supposed to charge them in fire proof containers in case they suddenly burst into flames.

But they do rock as far as not developing "memory"

Thats only if they don't have under voltage and over voltage protection, Most tools have a circuit in them that shuts off the power when the battery gets to low. And the chargers wont over charge. Those two things will keep you from having to worry about them burning up.
