When he hits rock bottom. I have a friend like that. he says he "cut down to an 18 pack a day" of beer. WTF, an 18 pack! Until something bad happens, he will stay the same.

I'm guessing when he gets put at the bottom of the kidney transplant list. My uncle used to drink at least a 5th of bourbon every day and usually a 12 pack of beer with it, then on weekends he'd really party. He quit when we buried him. The crappy part though is that pneumonia finally killed him, not liver/kidney failure.

Sober doesn't always mean he was a drunk btw, I'm guessing harder stuff.

I did lots of things that I am not proud of.

14 months later I have just begun to learn who I am again. I lost touch with who I am intrinsically.

I bought my '03 Mach 1 new off the showroom floor in Fort Worth, and after putting all of 930 miles on it had an apartment gate close on the right rear fender, raking the fender above the wheel well and the OEM Magnum 500 wheel rim. At the time it sucked, but the repairs were well done and I don't even think about any more.

I also had an OASIS report run on the car afterward to find out it's official build date, and found out that the deck lid had been repaired at the dealer before I bought it. I never would have been able to tell just by looking at it. Just goes to show a pristine car may be nice to have, but if you're going to actually take it out to drive and enjoy it, stuff will happen.

Congrats. Keep with it, I wish my little bro could say this one day.

it was tough at first, now I don't have cravings and don't miss it.

Life is amazing when you see it through clear eyes. even with all the crappy things that can happen.

Obviously get his insurance info but your company will fix it right now, his will want to prove who is at fault first. You should have un/underinsured protection anyways and the deductible will be a lot cheaper and you'll get it back if their insured is found to be at fault.

Ultimately their insurance should be paying for everything if they are at fault but they will drag their feet. Don't even deal with them, that's what your insurance is for. Drop it off at a direct repair shop and get it fixed. Then make sure it's absolutely perfect before you pick it up and ask the adjuster about diminished value. It'll be a different group of people. I'd also bring someone more familiar with paint/body work to inspect it, I'm assuming you probably aren't an expert in the field.

Their insurance cares about their insured customer, they won't make it easy for you. Your company cares about you. As long as they are at fault your rates won't go up for making a claim.

Congrats on being sober, keep it up. Don't let crap like this get to you.
Ahhhhhhh yes! The ole "that's what I have insurance for" saying. I will tell you this, this is horrible advice. Getting your own insurance involved is the last thing you want to do. Yes, if the person who hit you has no insurance, if their insurance company is giving you the run around, then get your own insurance involved. But under no circumstances should you throw up the white flag on day one. Your car is driveable so you can wait a few days to get everything worked out.

I have a friend who had this "half assed" attitude a few years ago when he got hit by someone else...and guess what, his truck got fixed but he paid a higher premium for the next 3 years. Trust me, put out a little effort to get the correct insurance company to pay for it!

Plus now you have to pay your deductible for a wreck that wasnt your fault. Maybe you can recover your deductible if the other side takes responsibilty, but I dont know how often people get their deductible back.
