DENISON, Texas - A 58-year-old military veteran is dead after being shot while golfing at the Denison Country Club.

Sheriff’s deputies said 53-year-old Robert McInchak first shot Shellman Smith Jr.’s dog after it wandered onto his property just off the third hole.

When Smith went to investigate seconds later, witnesses said McInchak shot him too.

He later died at the hospital.

McInchak was arrested at the scene and charged with murder.

The dog is expected to survive.
