This is a rant...so stick with me.

I basically wont have a job in the next month, but I will still be an employee.

Im graduating school and will be moving on with the company. The company has paid for my school and I have a contractual obligation to work for them for the next 2 years. I have been working there part time for 2.5 years. I knew there would be the day to train my replacement, but they are moving the ahead by a couple months.

So, basically in the coming weeks, I will not have my job anymore. Someone else is already in the process of getting hired. Im part time and they are finally opening the job full time (which I have been asking for for the last 2 years) and they feel that now that I should be leaving, this is the best time to open it full time. I was offered the opportunity to apply for the job, but they basically had someone hired for my spot. So until I graduate and pass my state licensing exam, I wont be working though Im still and employee.

They have no loyalty to the person who has always shown up early to work, who stays late, comes in when they need help, etc.... Now I wont really have an income for the next couple months because of this. They say I can pick up shifts if people call in sick or they will try and schedule me a day a week.

Then to top it off, my work has no idea what to do with the 6 people that are graduating and they have paid for the educations. We have signed contracts but no jobs for these people in the works. They have had 2 years to prepare for this day but have failed.

Amazing how the company doesnt care about their own employees. They have invested extra money (into our educations for a mutual benefit) but have nothing. Im hoping that my contract will be void because they dont have positions for us.

If you get the free education and don't end up having an obligation after all, I fail to see a down side.

thats is far from set in stone. They have the option of moving me to another location in the DFW area in a different department

At this point, I'm actually astonished when a company shows any loyalty or concern for its employees well being.

Sorry for your luck man, at least you got an education out of the deal.

this is what I'd seriously hope to happen, you already got the schooling and got out of the contract to boot. It would be a win for you and an opportunity to shop around and find a salary that you like rather than being tied down to what they want to pay for 2 years.

And if that's the case your still not that bad off nor are you out of a job really. It may be a little less convenient than the position that your coming out of but did you really expect the company not to change in direction some over the course of 4 or however many years this training/schooling/end contract obligation covered.

The individual branch paid for my education and the expectation was for me to work at this specific branch. My problem with the situation is that they KNOW who will be graduating and expecting new jobs yet they did a mass hire not long ago.

I guess its more complicated that I care to elaborate.

If they open it up to you it'll cost them more than if they hire someone off the street.

if you are locked into a two year contract then are they not obligated to get you a job? i mean they have to be paying you dont they? its like if you left them after your school was complete and broke the contract is it not?

You have to put a leash on your loyalty to a company. I do this by not over booking myself with work. That way I can still meet all my commitments but still put in a lot of hours.

Generally speaking for your 100% commitment, only expect 10-20% in return. That's why, in my opinion your local management/direct report can make or break your experience with a company. They can show loyalty on behalf of the company that you'll never see from positions above their level. (Kind of like you make them look good, they make you look good...etc...etc)

If you want loyalty - work for yourself. You won't be finding it from an outside company anymore.
