  • So my kid gets his first speeding ticket

Last Saturday he comes in and tells me he just got a ticket for speeding. 59 in a 40. after ripping into his ass for driving that fast, he tells me the traffic cop told him as he was writing the ticket, that he really wanted to give him a warning because he "was the most polite teen he has ever stopped". he talked about his first tickets he got when he was a kid and suggested defensive driving.

fast forward to 9:45PM last night. we get a message on our machine from the officer that gave him the ticket that he wanted Robert to call him. robert called first thing this morning and left a message. he called again once he got out of school and left another message. the officer called him back and told him that he was voiding the ticket and not turning it in.

it goes to show that being polite to the cops when they pull you over is sometimes all it takes.plus it helps to be white

Similar thing happened to me the night before my senior year of high school started. Got bored and went with a few buddies to some warehouses over by the airport and did donuts and a whole assortment of shenanigans. As we were leaving I needed to turn around and, in the spirit of the night, did a quick little powerslide to do so; right as I got to about 100* of rotation I noticed a car coming at me really quickly, and then he turned his lights on.

He pulled me out of the car and asked what was wrong with me; I told him that I was both bored and a moron and was just killing time the night before school started. He was really cool about it, wrote me a ticket for exhibition of acceleration, and then let us go and was really friendly.

Called to set up a court date the next day and the woman I spoke with said they didn't have the ticket on file. The same officer called me back later in the day, thanked me for being polite and cooperative, and told me he was voiding it and that I wouldn't get the same treatment if he caught me over there again.

Haven't gone back to those warehouses since! lol

I generally won't write someone who is polite and honest. Fact is most people aren't polite at all when they are pulled over.

I had a similar thing happen in Austin about 5-6 years ago. 2 or so years later I found out I had a warrant for my arrest.

and it helps to be white! When my son was born I told him he already started out ahead of the game because he was a man and he was white.

sometimes courtesy goes a long way. i never understood the concept of being belligerent towards and officer, especially when you know you're in the wrong. i.e. blatantly speeding

some people prefer doing it the hard way.

I always catch myself being too polite when I get pulled over. I hate when I thank them as they walk off after giving me a ticket, its just a habit lol. Every time I think to myself wtf did you just thank him after he gave you a ticket.
