Best place to camp/fish?

Thinks for all the suggestions! Purtis Creek State Park looks pretty good, but I saw some limitations on what could be kept and ate. We're wanting to try to live off what we catch...haha I like small lakes like this though, so we'll have to give that a shot sometime.

I think we're going to try Ray Roberts @ Isle du Bois. The reviews look pretty good. The Hawthorn section looks like a good spot to try... It's a water walk-in type with a 1/8 to 1/4 mile walk to the site. It is like an island that jets out with coves on both sides, has a beach and looks to be pretty secluded.

Isle du Bois is much less shaded and the landscape isn't as plush. I would highly suggest changing it to the Johnson Branch side and going into the hike-in spots in Dogwood Canyon (I believe that's what it's called). It's the first section after you enter the park. Great spots and very wooded. Good hiking/biking trails over there.

When is the next GTG Colorado trip? How is the weather during that time in September?

Colorado is going to have to wait for next year. We will definitely miss it. I've never been in Sept. if you're asking about CO. We usually go in July-lows in the high 20's, low 30's and highs in the 60's-70's. Absolutely perfect. However, this is at 11k feet.

I have not been to Colorado in 20 years but when we went we were in Denver in August. The weather was awesome. Everyday at 2-3 we got showers followed by the sun turning it all to steam.

11K that is pretty high. Not like I would be running any marathons up there but I have been doing cardio at 5,600 right now and feel great. I can imagine what a week at 11K feels like coming back to DFW.

Yeah-we camp at 11k feet. Getting set up and tearing down is brutal, but when we're unloading back home-it's easy cheesy. LOL

We have tried many places, but always end up going back to the Johnson Branch at Ray Roberts. Our favorite spot is a 'hike-in' spot, but it's not but 30 yards from the parking lot. No one around and close to bathroom. It's a great park.

LOL! We've never been busted yet. We usually have the kids or it's just the two of us and we bring cans/liquor and pour it into plastic cups. We aren't as loud and obnoxious as you, though, so we usually fly under the radar.
