Reading this thread, I ask myself "what would I do"
I went on craigslist and found a Ford Focus ZX3 with 90k miles, 5 speed - nice condition.
2 Grand.
I've learned to live without warranties. Often I take care of my cars so well (especially the stang) that they don't really break. Anything that does break, breaks AFTER the warranty period.
Always listen to your wife, even if what she is saying doesn't make sense. But ultimately the decision is yours.

I have recently been thinking about ditching the mustang and buying a different third car that I might actually drive to work everyday. A cash car with ac reasonable mpg and ease of maintenance are on my list. Fox body cars are an obvious choice, but decent ones that I am interested in are getting scarce. I offered a guy $2000 for a super clean low mile '81 zephyr wagon the other day. He didn't bite.

Sound logic...
Going to look at a cash priced Civic.

Everybody knows that cars don't depreciate as rapidly if you pay cash for them, duh.Originally posted by davbrucasI want to like Slow99 since people I know say he's a good guy, but just about everything he posts is condescending and passive aggressive.
Most people I talk to have nothing but good things to say about you, but you sure come across as a condescending prick. Do you have an inferiority complex you've attempted to overcome through overachievement? Or were you fondled as a child?
You and slow99 should date. You both have passive aggressiveness down pat.

Between my 02mustang, 85 c10, or 95f350 I can handle her or my car breaking down without the need for a tow truck or rental.
I've got my beater 03 Cummins, beater fox body wagon, beater Lincoln... The cars sit 99% of the time... if I break down? no biggie...
I got tired of her calling me when she broke down so I told her to go buy a newer car
