My parents live at PK and my step dad is the pastor at one of the churches. National Guard came in during church service this morning and told them to evacuate immediately. They have finally declared it a disaster area so the military is getting involved heavily. My step dad and a few neighbors stayed behind to watch the houses.

I drove through Alpine and Marfa this afternoon and the ground was black as far as I could see. I didn't come down through Ft. Davis, which I know got hit really bad. Electric line poles were burnt and hanging from the lines in Alpine.

Went I-20 west through Abilene and up north through Lubbock, and then back through Wichita Falls today. Lots of fire and smoke! Yack!

Not all the way west... I saw blue skies today in Odessa. Of course the past 2 days were smoky to the point of hurting your lungs when driving through it.

I've been out to/through Odessa 4 times this Tuesday and today was the first clear day. Sweetwater and East still had some smoke hanging.
                  .

We attempted to go pick up the ol' lady's grandparents and their boat yesterday morning. Wind was fairly calm when we left the metroplex and was blowing like crazy the farther we got. Although the roads were clear when we left, we made it about 3 miles out from their place and were turned back by the game wardens. Flames were over the trees about 100yrds in front of us and blowing across the road. I was passing flatbeds filled with everything they could carry headed away from the flames. I will post up some pictures later. It was incredibly hot when we got out to talk with the game warden.

Community Church of Possum Kingdom Lake. The church is fine as of this morning. My step-dad didn't leave until this morning when they forced him out. It is getting worse by the minute. I have a scanner web link that I can listen in to the public safety frequency and have had it going non-stop for the last few hours. The fire is jumping everything they put in it's path. Here is a few links to keep up with what is going on.

You can zoom in on this map and it will show flames everywhere there is a major fire burning.

Watching the news, people are watering their houses with the hose. Does that really do anything or is it just desperation?

                          Seems like desperation to me.

It works, we had to do it once and being soaked really helped.

It helps with airborne embers but not much else.
