A 4-5x markup from the point of manufacture to the sales shelf isn't that much, given how many layers of distribution there are in the gun world.

The SV40ve is not a bad gun. I have had several and granted the trigger is the weakest part of the gun. I agree, for the money it is not a bad gun at all. Used the 9mm is around 250 to 275. Is there better, yes. Is there worse, yes.
When I did my quals for my CHL, I thought I put my model 19 Glock in my bag. When I got to the range to shoot, I said oh crap....well, I shot a perfect score with the S&W.

The trigger can be improved a good bit by removing some weird flashing on a few of the stamped trigger components. That combined with the APEX springs has made a world of difference on mine.

The trigger components had flashing on them because they were MIM parts.

I have seen plenty of MIM and stamped (die cut) metal parts. These are cut from a flat sheet and then bent into a more complex form. The one on the right is from an SD and the left a Sigma.

The one I had was a decent gun, nothing special. I only sold it because I ended up getting 150 more than I paid for the thing when the market was way up

I had a sigma years ago in 40. Got rid of it because I hated the trigger pull, but it had no funtional problems I can remember. They are cheap and reliable enough they would make a good truck gun.
