  • S&W 610 10mm magnum conversion

I've been contemplating this a lot lately. You can convert S&W 610 10mm revolvers over to 10mm magnum with a simple chamber ream. And it's badass...

People are seeing 1500-1900fps from 180gr upward projectiles - really amazing stuff.

Valid question, but basically the best answer is I already have a 10mm. A max loaded 10mm is comparable to mid level .41 mag. Sure .41 mag can deliver more energy than a 10mm, but it has to be loaded hot, and it isn't by much.

Very little is cataloged on 10mm magnum, however early ballistic data is showing it's much more potent than a .41 magnum, which I'm inclined to believe seeing as the considerably shorter 10mm cartridge is damn close to a .41 mag already. Right now I've been looking over some data of 10mm mag slining 180gr @ 1900fps, which is WAY more than .41 mag.

The advantage to a 10mm mag is you can shoot 10mm and .40 S&W as well. Also, the 610 comes in 10mm, which is only a simple ream for a 10mm magnum. Disadvantage is it requires moon clips.

What powder is being used to accomplish the 1900fps? I would image it's a highly compressed load therefore needing a very heavy crimp. Another thing that comes to mind is that when comparing it to the 41 is that it may be like when comparing the 300 win mag to the short mag. The short mag will push the lighter bullets faster but loses ground on the heavy's which I would feel this cartridge be about the same.

about 220gr is the heaviest of the sweet spots in 10mm mag, 41 has it on longer weights for sure. It appears 10mm mag is just a higher pressure cartridge which is how it's able to achieve the higher velocites, but overall 10mm mag is almost identical to the .41 mag balistically.

              I believe it's an N frame.

Your right just fond on a S&W download spec sheat, that would mean it should handle the extra pressure of the magnum, I kinda wondeered since for a little while I couldn't find frame size. It would be really neat if Ruger built a RedHawk fo this round those revolvers are built stout.

I do believe I'll stick to my 41 though.
