I know where one is for sale for $4,000. I thought "hmm, a rifle caliber machine gun for four grand...." but decided against it. Jackson Armory has one right now too, but I am not sure what they want.

Indeed. 8mm lebel is hard to find nowadays (odd considering it stands as the most significant cartridge in history). Also I imagine that 300 rpm would he wildly underwhelming. As for the parts situation I am pretty used to that. My grandfather (who fought in WW1) said the Chauchat was only good for clubbing the huns if they got into their trench.
