I'm guessing it's redirecting the sound, kind of like a conical muzzle on a matter deuce. Those things reduce sound to an incredible level. I can have a conversation 20 foot behind one that's firing.

They're actually baffled with chambers etc. On a 556 it does shot but make it sound like a 20" barrel. But like I mentioned, it does decent on 22.

Bought a rifle. Took the barrel off. Sent it to a guy who cut it to 4.5” and rethreaded. Cut the handguards down with a hack saw. Put it all back together with an old ass 22 silencer.

JK. I have that issue as well. I just shot two guns I've owned for 6 months or more, and still haven't shot one AR.

funny how that happens. It was 13 months as of yesterday, when I had to check a load for function. I showed up to the range, fired three mags through my Mark 23 as quickly as possible and then immediately left, other guys probably thought I was crazy.
