  • "Accidently" bought a reloading set up on Ebay

I recently got the bug to start reloading. I had the Hornady AP press, but it sat in the corner for years untouched so I sold it several years ago. I've been shopping around and looking at kits, and liked the RCBS Rock Chucker single stage kit. I think the reason my other press never got opened was because being a first timer the AP press was intimidating/overwhelming. I found the RCBS Rock Chucker Supreme Master Reloading Kit on Ebay and started bidding. I set my max bid at $275 thinking I would for sure get outbid. I forgot about the auction till just now when I got the email saying I won it for $272 haha. It does come with the $50 mail in rebate, and free shipping, so $222 for everything. Anyways, Im sure I will be coming to you guys for tips and tutorials if thats ok.

The rock chucker is a solid press and will last a lifetime. I have a pre Rock chucker that was made in the 50 ' s and is still going strong.

When mounting a press I like to put a metal plate for support on the underside for added support. I have one on the top for my Hornady press as well as a bottom for it. It just gives a little more area to support.

I got the same kit last year in April, I think. I really wanted the 500 projectiles instead of the $50. I waited too late though. They had so many requests for the projectiles they quit offering them and were only doing the $50 rebate. You will be pleased with the kit. Although I will suggest you go out and buy at least 1 more reloading manual.

I use Varget for just about anything. There are better options out there. Benchmark, Win 748, CEO 223, H 335, Ramshot Tac, X-Terminator, IMR 3031, IMR 4064 or 4320. All of these will work. There are a few more as well but good luck finding some.

IMR-4198 is the original powder designated for the AR-15 by Eugene Stoner. Varget burns slower and is a little too slow for 55gr, it's the best powder for 77gr and heavier though. For .223 I use WC844 exclusively if you can find it. Dirt cheap, same stuff the government uses in actual M193/M855 military rounds. It's just messy.

Cool thanks. I ended up picking up some 4064 at cabelas cause it was there and in stock. I'll start looking for those others.

                      Thanks

I got everything set up last night and loaded around 20 rnds. They took me a while due to double and triple checking every round to make sure I had everything set up right.

You're really far off the cannelure it looks like, any reason for that? Are you using the load data for that bullet manufacturer?

2.26" on a 55gr is what I load mine at. Usually on a military 55gr the cannelure is perfectly set for that. Is that not a 55gr? Be careful you don't have any bullets knocked into the case when chambering.
