I just picked up the Nosler 7th edition load data book. Let me know if there's anything your looking for. Use this thread to ask for any sort of load data.

Personally, I'd like to have a the most up to date data book from each of the major projectile and powder companies, mostly because I don't want to rely on an electronic device to get my data. Before you buy anything, see what you can find online, because there is a lot of load data out there on the net (just to list a few).

what i want to know is what kind of a load data book should i buy?
just buy any new one?
preference to 9mm , 45acp, 308 , 762x39 , so NO i dont do a ton of calibers
I picked up what I noticed was the most popular powder just by noticing it being brought up in a lot of my search results. This is how I determined where to start. A burn rate chart will also help you narrow down your powder/load choice.
I started with a load book from the manufacturer of my press as well as the maker of the bullets that I am using, no better source than the original source.Originally posted by Sean88gtYou can take white off the list. I have been keeping the newer versions of Hornady, Nosler and Sierra. I like comparing data across the board and I use online data as well. I like the new Nosler book a lot, I use a lot of their varmint and hunting bullets and target bullets from the other two."It's another burrito, it's a cold Lone Star in my hand!"

hmmm im starting to see here there are a million variables. I like the internet, so maybe i'll just start there.
i also really want to just use what every one else is using , i prefer to purchase components in large quantity. so i can't be trying out bullets left and right , powder choices , etc
maybe id be better off getting a chrony . Seems like an instrument that is hard to avoid for gathering good data. I having a hard time imagining you know WTF is going on otherwise. thoughts ? good plan?

I built up some rounds, thought, "oh, I can at least test the accuracy". Then, I started looking at case pressure and what not and relized that a Chrono is good for more than velocity. A spike in velocity can indicate a spike in pressure, maybe something to look at you know. It also helps you get the best velocity/accuracy compromise.
Again, it is a MUSTOriginally posted by Sean88gtYou can take white off the list. And chrono's are cheap."When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic." -Benjamin Franklin

Futant, also note that bullets are not all the same even if the weight is the same or similar. If the bullet is longer it will use less powder before pressure is reached due to the bullet taking up more room in the case. The barrel you are using may or may not like the bullet, powder, or combination of both at all. This is why I always buy a box or two before stocking up on large quantities.
Also knowing the twist rate of your barrel (you will also need the general velocity of the desired cartridge) will help in picking the proper bullet or accuracy could greatly suffer. You can go on JBM and use the stability calculator to get ball park answers."It's another burrito, it's a cold Lone Star in my hand!"

cool good info in here.
to be fair , some of the ammo I just don't care that much about accuracy on - hence larger quanitities.
all my 308 will be finely tuned for each of my rifles
well i guess i'll get a chrony then, and skip the reloading manual for now.
sorry if that sounds stupid on the surface. I'm just not trying purchase anything i won't be using. there is so much damn crap to reloading!
I've already decided NOT to buy larger quantities of anything 308 besides brass, until i find a flavor my guns like

Reloading manuel will save you time and money later on. And honestly, you will end up using that more than the Chrono as it acutally gives you load data vs. a Chrono, which you dont use until you have load data.

so far light loads , i think it was thin skinned winchester probably 150g shot into 1 MOA. I was pretty happy with that at first.
haven't tried 168 stuff yet
tried some 175g Gold metal match SMK and it didn't seem as good, maybe 1-1.5MOA . not sure yet though because the testing i was doing was not very formalized.
intending to repeat on the 175g match again and see what i get.
Could be the muzzle brake i changed. I couldn't believe it was a good 4 MOA POI change from the factory flash hider. unbelievable...
PS. not really looking to stretch the legs on this thing, just going for 1 MOA out to 600 yrds would be sufficient for this type of rifle (DPMS)
