  • First AR build.... getting close to the end! :)

I haven't taken any pics till now. I guess I should have. Anyway. First build and I've really enjoyed it. I know some aren't into the paint. I like it and am quite happy w/ the way it turned out. This AR has been pieced together over the last several months with as little as possible put into it. (Not by design, I'm just a broke ass motor-scooter.) Barrel and all the front bits are next.....

Items done so far that aren't pictured. Thanks for all the ideas!
    • Polished trigger group and safety.
    • Take down detent reatiner set screw
    • Shortened trigger pull length
    • Lightened trigger pull weight

Next up... maybe.... (while waiting for funds for the barrel). Polish the bolt carrier and bolt carrier to hammer contact points. (Thoughts?)

Why did they rip off the Springfield Armory logo?

I have no clue. First build and I went cheap expecting mistakes.

I hope you are going with a freefloat rail. It's worth the extra cost

I may in the future. However, as this is my first build, I wanted to focus on the bare minimums of making a working firearm. Thanks for the suggestion though!

            Finally finished!
What a blast this was to build. I am looking forward to building many more.

            Basic break down:
            • LRB lower - Paint by yours truly. Captured tear down detent.
            • DPMS stock
            • Mill spec buffer tube
            • Spike's Tactical LPK - (Polished all up and trigger spring cut. Trigger adjusted w/ set screw up the grip bolt hole)
            • Unknown pistol grip but I REALLY like the way it feels. (Anyone know who makes that?)
            • RR BCG
            • Unknown hand guards but they are small and feel great
            • Gun show special flash suppressor
            • I forget who made the upper
            • Carry handle specific scope.
            • DSG mags
            • Gun show special lanyard

A few more small things but all in all your basic "Frankenstein" build. I made many mistakes along the way but met a whole lot of VERY cool people and had a lot of help putting this thing together. Borrowed tools, a few free parts, some great prices, and patience. Oh, and I learned a ton of stuff! Looking forward to the next one.

At first I wanted a flat top, however, for the price of that upper, I had to get it. (Bought a bunch of AR stuff so basically the upper was $50 +/-). Although, now that it is all assembled, I've grown to like the carry handled look. Even if the scope makes it about worthless as an actual handle. I will say this, my respect has grown immensely for any armed forces carrying one of these things around in a swamp, desert, etc for any length of time. This one isn't "heavy", but I can see it getting that way after days on end. God Bless our military!

Nice build! I just completed my first one as well, and think we started a tad too late, dammit...

Nice, that is the same lower I built my last one on.
